Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Reporting to the Senior Social Worker, this position will promote the psychological well-being of the Columbia student body by performing consultation, liaison, case management, direct clinical services and other related functions to the general patient population of Counseling and Psychological Services. This will include comprehensive case management for high-risk students and/or students with complex psychosocial circumstances as they transition through different levels of mental health care which may include hospitalization, residential treatment program, day treatment program, and ongoing outpatient treatment.

This is an essential onsite role requiring some evening hours and on-call duties; limited hybrid flexibility may be considered. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Responsibilities

• In collaboration with clinical staff, especially psychiatric staff, serves as a primary resource for students in facilitating referrals to outside psychological and other resources. 35%
• Provides comprehensive case management for high-risk students and/or students with complex psychosocial circumstances as they transition through different levels of mental health care which may include hospitalization, residential treatment program, day treatment programs, and ongoing outpatient treatment. 20%
• Serves as a chief liaison to outside clinical and social support resources. Helps to identify, develop and maintain a network of outside providers and institutions to whom students (both with or without student health insurance) can be referred.
• Serves as a liaison to students on medical leave of absence for psychiatric reasons, promoting continuity of care and helping students maintain a sense of connection to the University. 10%
• Performs administrative duties related to clinical work (e.g., collaboration with other providers and services within and outside of Columbia Health) and to other departmental business. Maintains up-to-date and accurate patient records. 5%
• Compiles data and creates periodic reports on all liaison and consultation activities; participates in quality assurance activities related to assigned scope of duties. 5%
• Provides as needed, initial psychological evaluation (e.g., phone triage), involving diagnostic assessment, based on a review of presenting problem(s) and of the patient's developmental, social, psychological, and treatment history. 5%
• Conducts focused support groups including, but not limited to, groups for students awaiting assignment to other resources, as needed. 5%
• Performs other responsibilities as assigned. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work and New York State LCSW license required.
• Minimum of five (5) years' related experience required with at least three (3) years acceptable clinical experience.
• Demonstrated experience in advanced diagnostic and clinical skills, particularly with respect to crisis intervention.
• Must be able to work with serious psychopathology (e.g., suicidal and psychotic patients). Experience in case management.
• Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Position requires some evening hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated training and experience in one or more areas of specialty such as: Alcohol/substance abuse; eating disorders and body-image concerns; problems of international students and cross-cultural counseling; multicultural concerns; trauma; military veterans; survivors of sexual violence.
• Experience in college mental health settings, and/or with late adolescent and young adult populations. Inpatient experience and familiarity with local psychiatric resources and social services.
• Proficiency in Bengali, Cantonese, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese and other languages is a plus.
