Job Title: Radiologic Technologist Profession: Radiology Specialty: General Radiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: - IEMA Radiography License - Radiography (R)(ARRT) Certifications: - BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Positive attitude and willingness to assess and improve work environment - Ability to perform multiple tasks while coordinating patient flow and various technical procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative Description: The Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic general radiological procedures utilizing various imaging equipment to assist in the diagnosis of diseases and injuries. The technologist performs radiographic procedures by acquiring and processing patient exams in accordance with accrediting bodies and manufacturer guidelines, as outlined in department protocols. The role involves reviewing cases with the radiologist when appropriate. The technologist reviews labs and patient history to ensure the correct exam is performed. Administering IV contrast and oral or rectal contrast is required when appropriate. The technologist recognizes and responds to any adverse or allergic reactions. IV contrast material is administered through an existing IV line or by performing veni-puncture. Patients must be screened for the possibility of pregnancy, and pregnancy testing is performed if applicable. The technologist is responsible for reviewing radiology orders for completeness and accuracy. Reviewing patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity is critical. The technologist takes steps to acquire additional information if needed from patients, ordering providers, and/or radiologists. Acceptable imaging quality standards are demonstrated by critiquing positioning, technical factors, and alignment. Patient data must be reviewed for accuracy, quality, and completeness. The technologist transfers and verifies image data in PACS and provides necessary medical history and information for radiologist interpretation. Utilizing web servers and email systems to send exams for preliminary readings after hours is part of the role. Maintaining imaging equipment and the workplace environment, including supply inventories and orderliness of the work area, is essential. Recognizing malfunctions and service needs and reporting them in a timely manner is required. Patient, visitor, and environmental safety must be ensured. Safety events are reported immediately, including those that are near misses. The technologist assists in the instruction of students and new staff as necessary. During absences, the technologist may perform duties of a Rad Tech Lead or Imaging Coordinator. Meeting productivity levels established by department benchmarking is expected. Assisting other areas during downtimes is vital to maintain productivity. The technologist may be required to perform duties of other modalities within the department to which licensures are held. Compliance with other job descriptions of cross-trained modalities also performed within the department is required.
