Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Pediatric ICU

Job Description Summary The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Critical Care is recruiting a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work full time in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Shawn Jenkin’s Children Hospital. The unit is a 28‑bed, medical–surgical PICU staffed by board‑certified intensivists, highly trained nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, child life specialists and rehabilitation therapists. Required Minimum Training Physician Assistant : completion of an accredited PA program and current licensure or eligibility for licensure. APRN (Pediatric Acute Care NP – PACNP): completion of an accredited NP program and current licensure or eligibility for licensure. Preferred Experience One year of Pediatric ICU experience as a nurse or advanced practice provider (PA/NP). Degree of Supervision The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Applications for Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) license and DEA license must be initiated prior to first day of employment. Job Duties Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations. Evaluates and treats based on history, physical exam, imaging, labs and other diagnostic results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline. Performs therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency approved by the Clinical Division Chief. Initiates referrals and/or consults with attending or collaborating physicians. Documents and bills for direct care provided. Utilizes current research and evidence‑based decision‑making in clinical practice. Participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research. Supports accreditation, compliance and regulatory activities of the organization. Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education. Precepts students and facilitates learning of new team members as needed. Maintains licenses, certifications, CME credits and other requirements as per policy and law. Physical Requirements Continuous ability to stand, walk and sit; bend at waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions and use both hands and legs. Requires good finger dexterity and repetitive hand/wrist/elbow/shoulder motions. Able to lift, lower, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 50 lb unassisted. Must be reasonably able to use a respirator and maintain 20/40 vision corrected. Work is performed in a latex‑safe environment and indoors.
