Overview The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute provides care to New Mexicans across six divisions including inpatient psychiatric care for civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care for behavioral health disorders, detox and residential substance use treatment, and skilled/long-term care. It is the largest behavioral health complex in the state, with inpatient/residential care for over 250 New Mexicans daily and about 400 outpatient clients per month. The organization contains over 600 employees across all divisions to ensure high-quality treatment and care. Salary $46.33 - $74.12 Hourly $96,358 - $154,173 Annually This position is a Pay Band C12. Purpose This position provides clinical and programmatic oversight of the CARE Unit, ensuring delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed treatment for adolescent residents with complex behavioral health needs. The role supports the CARE program in delivering structured and individualized care and maintaining a strong therapeutic milieu, and coordinates multidisciplinary services to develop staff competency in working with this population. Responsibilities Provide clinical oversight and operational leadership for the CARE program's therapeutic services. Supervise and support multidisciplinary team efforts including psychiatry, psychology, nursing, therapy, and education to ensure integrated care. Review and guide individualized treatment plans and therapeutic interventions for residents. Ensure compliance with accreditation, documentation, and quality assurance standards. Provide leadership and oversight of the clinical and programming schedule to ensure consistent, structured, and therapeutically appropriate services are delivered. Customers Adolescent residents of the CARE program. Ideal Candidate Significant experience working with adolescents. Ability to lead clinical programming, supervise staff, and maintain a trauma-informed, structured therapeutic environment. Knowledge of treating adolescents and balancing clinical leadership with day-to-day operational needs. Strong communication, program oversight, and collaborative leadership skills. Experience managing schedules and interdisciplinary teams in a secure setting is highly preferred. Minimum Qualifications Licensed by the New Mexico Board of Psychologist Examiners and three (3) years of experience relevant to the essential duties. A combination of education from an accredited college/university in a related field and/or direct experience totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate. Safety-sensitive position; subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with federal and state law. Criminal records background checks required; employment is conditional pending results. HIPAA training/compliance expected. Working Conditions Work is performed on-site at the CARE residential unit located on the NMBHI campus. The environment is a secured treatment setting serving adolescents with complex behavioral and emotional needs. The position requires regular computer use, documentation in electronic medical records, direct interaction with residents, and ongoing collaboration with clinical and administrative staff.
