The Phlebotomist II performs high-volume blood draws and specimen collection in a fast-paced hospital and laboratory setting, ensuring accurate labeling, processing, and storage of specimens while delivering professional, courteous patient care. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to established procedures and regulatory standards, and effective communication with patients, clinical staff, and laboratory personnel.

• Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures, including blood, urine, and fecal samples, with accuracy, professionalism, and a strong focus on patient comfort.
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients prior to and during procedures.
• Demonstrate and use appropriate phlebotomy techniques, including straight needles and butterfly needles, in accordance with established protocols.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures to maintain specimen integrity and quality.
• Fully understand and interpret physicians’ orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and laboratory protocols.
• Verify all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against orders or scripts to ensure 100% accuracy before processing.
• Package specimens correctly for transport, following protocols to maintain proper temperature and handling requirements.
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes, ensuring accurate and complete labeling.
• Follow different specimen handling and transport procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain the integrity of each sample.
• Receive and accession specimens into the laboratory information system, ensuring accurate data entry and tracking.
• Assist with specimen processing duties within the laboratory, supporting timely and efficient workflow.
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required to support a safe and compliant laboratory environment.
• Update patient information and laboratory records accurately and promptly in the appropriate systems.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
• Attend annual department trainings and remain current with OSHA and DEP regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.
• Draw approximately 50 patients per day, maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and patient service.
• Collaborate with a team-oriented staff while also performing occasional independent work as needed.

• Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience, including experience performing high-volume blood draws.
• Proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Experience with blood draws, specimen collection, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and packaging specimens for transport.
• Ability to review and process laboratory orders and match requisition forms accurately to specimen tubes.
• Skill in receiving and accessioning specimens into a laboratory information system with strong attention to detail.
• Knowledge of and ability to follow established procedures for specimen storage and handling to maintain integrity.
• Understanding of OSHA and DEP regulations and commitment to compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in labeling, data entry, and documentation.
• Effective customer service and patient interaction skills, including the ability to explain procedures clearly and courteously.
• Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the workday in a fast-paced clinical and laboratory environment.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Phlebotomy certification.
• Previous hospital-based phlebotomy experience.
• Experience working with pediatric and geriatric patients.
• Experience in specimen processing within a laboratory setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also performing independent tasks.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, clinical staff, and laboratory personnel.
• Commitment to ongoing training and professional development through annual department trainings.

This position is based in a hospital setting with a fast-paced laboratory and patient care environment. The role involves drawing approximately 50 patients per day and working within a team-oriented atmosphere that also includes occasional independent work. The workday primarily involves standing and walking while performing blood draws, specimen collection, and processing tasks. The environment emphasizes collaboration, accuracy, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards, offering the opportunity to gain experience with a nationally recognized laboratory organization in a supportive and professional team setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Bartlesville, OK.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
