WORK SITE STATUS: Hybrid of 2-3 days/week in the office. PAY RANGE: $26.44 to $33.65 per hour, depending on experience. JOB DESCRIPTION Our client, a well-established law firm based in downtown Los Angeles, is seeking an enthusiastic Human Resources Assistant to join their HR team. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this role provides broad exposure across the HR function in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. The HR Assistant will support recruiting and onboarding, payroll and benefits administration, compliance, policy and procedure maintenance, and training and development, along with firmwide special projects, offering strong potential to build skills and grow within the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HR ASSISTANT HR Administration & Recordkeeping Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information. Provide general administrative support, including file management, correspondence, mailings, and calendaring. Maintain HR records, reports, workplace postings, and required notices. Enter and update employee information within the HRIS system. Update HR intranet pages, resource materials, and internal communications. Recruiting, Onboarding & Employee Lifecycle Support recruiting and onboarding activities, including posting positions, scheduling interviews, coordinating background checks, preparing offer letters, and facilitating new-hire onboarding. Prepare and process documentation related to recruiting, onboarding, payroll, benefits, performance reviews, leaves of absence, and employee separations. Assist with E-Verify processing and I-9 review and documentation. Compliance & Training Track and report on completion of compliance training and required acknowledgments. Support a basic understanding of employment laws and HR best practices across the team. Edit and format HR policies, procedures, correspondence, and forms. Meetings, Events & Special Projects Coordinate HR meetings and events, including scheduling, preparing materials, tracking participation, and recording minutes. Assist with departmental updates and internal communications. Support additional duties and special projects as assigned. REQUIREMENTS OF THE HR ASSISTANT Required Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional experience. 1+ years of HR experience within a law firm or other professional services environment (for example, an accounting firm) . SKILLS OF THE HR ASSISTANT Required Technical Proficiency with ADP, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with the ability to learn new systems quickly. Basic understanding of core HR principles and employment laws. Interpersonal Strong written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage competing priorities and deadlines. Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Analytical and critical thinking skills. Professional demeanor with a proactive mindset, strong initiative, and a genuine desire to learn and grow within the HR profession.
