Lead Enterprise Architect

Job Overview Axos Bank – Lead Enterprise Architect (San Diego, CA). Target salary range: $185,000–$225,000 per year. 10% annual discretionary cash bonus target. 10% annual discretionary Restricted Stock Units bonus target. Bonuses may be awarded semi‑annually based on performance goals and targets. Remote or hybrid options are not available. This role reports onsite in San Diego and is responsible for guiding the execution of the software development roadmap to support Axos’ strategy. Responsibilities Design software architecture specifications that support functional and non‑functional requirements such as usability, reliability, availability, modularity, interoperability, maintainability, testability, and security. Apply modern architecture principles and patterns, including microservices, cloud‑native, serverless, event‐driven, reactive, domain‑driven design, API‑first, and DevOps. Leverage emerging technologies (AI, machine learning, big data, crypto, IoT, blockchain, cloud services) to enhance solutions and create competitive advantages. Improve and enforce software engineering standards, guidelines, methodologies, processes, and best practices. Guide and mentor matrixed engineering teams—architects, developers, testers, and DevOps engineers—fostering collaboration, innovation, and excellence. Collaborate with product management, business units, and technology teams to understand customer needs, market trends, and business opportunities, translating them into competitive software solutions. Research and evaluate new technologies, frameworks, libraries, and tools, providing recommendations and guidance on adoption and integration. Monitor and analyze performance, quality, security, and scalability, identifying and resolving issues or risks. Document and present architecture designs and implementations to internal and external stakeholders, including executives, customers, partners, and vendors. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in software engineering. 5+ years of experience in software architecture and design. Prior experience within Banking and/or Fintech. Proven track record designing, developing, and delivering complex, scalable software solutions for online and mobile applications, preferably for both B2B and B2C customers. Expert knowledge of multiple programming languages, frameworks, platforms, and tools (Java, Python, C#, .NET, Node.js, React, Angular, Vue, Flutter, AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes). Strong knowledge of modern architecture principles and patterns (microservices, cloud‑native, etc.). Experience leveraging emerging technologies (AI, ML, big data, IoT, blockchain). Experience establishing and enforcing engineering standards, guidelines, and best practices (agile, scrum, kanban, code review, testing, CI/CD, continuous improvement). Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic, innovative environment.
