Pharmacy Technician TraineeAssists in preparing prescription medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist while engaged in Valley's BOP approved pharmacy technician training program.Essential duties and responsibilities include:Greeting and assisting patientsHandling non-professional phone calls and directing other calls to the appropriate personnelMaintaining and cleaning equipment, work areas, and shelvesChecking refrigerator and freezer temperaturesUnpacking and organizing incoming orders, including sorting items that require special handlingOrdering and stocking all pharmacy suppliesChecking off all prescription and non-prescription stock for outdates and process outdated returnsRecordkeeping related to inventories, receipts, purchases, and deliveriesProcessing and preparing third-party insurance claimsCommunicating with insurers if problems arise while handling a patient's insurance transmissionsCommunicating with physicians and patients, including requesting refill authorizations from prescribersAccepting prescriptions from patients to be filledHandling customer problems/concerns in a calm manner and referring them to the pharmacist accordinglyAccessing, inputting, and retrieving information through the pharmacy's computer system to maintain accurate patient recordsCreating accurate prescription labelsRetrieving, pouring, counting, labeling, and reconstituting prescription medicationsPackaging and labeling products under the supervision of the pharmacist on dutyCommunicating to the pharmacist any duplication of medication, drug therapy overlap, drug interactions, drug-disease state interactions, and any questions that arise from entering the prescription informationPlace completed prescription orders in the will-call areaOperating the Point-Of-SaleProviding completed prescriptions for patientsCollecting co-paymentsPreparing completed orders for mailingMaintaining records of mailed and delivered ordersFiling completed hard-copies of new prescriptions (except schedule II drugs) in numerical orderNotifying the pharmacist of any problems or malfunctionsComplying with established procedures, rules, and regulationsUnderstanding confidentiality with respect to patient care; complying with all federal and state laws applicable to the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and electronic protected health information (EPHI); and following HIPAA guidelines regarding readily identifiable protected health informationWorking as a team and communicating clearlyStudying and learning WV pharmacy laws and regulationsComplete online modules, quizzes, and test exam for Pharmacy Technician Program along with the required 500 hours of on-the-job trainingOther duties as assigned by Pharmacist or supervisorEducation and/or work experience requirements:High School Graduate or GED issued by Board of EducationPharmacy technician trainee license from the WVBOPMonday - Friday 9:30am - 6:00pm
