Description Experienced Nurses needed for the new Intermediate Neurosciences and Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) Unit at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. This is a 36 hour/week Day Shift position, with weekend rotation, flexible self-scheduling, and eligible for an extensive benefit package. The unit is scheduled to open in the Summer of 2026! The 18‑bed intermediate care unit is designed to provide high‑quality specialized and compassionate care. Staff members are challenged by the pace of the unit and the great variety of patients served. Teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration are hallmarks of this unit while delivering expert “Carolina Care” to patients and families. Our ONE GREAT TEAM facilitates admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges 24/7. Currently accepting applications for start dates beginning in May 2026. Summary: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self; attends education programs; uses patient education materials relevant to the patient population; assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers; assesses developmental level of patient and factors affecting ability to learn. Evaluation of Care – Identifies expected patient outcomes; seeks guidance as needed in revising plan of care; participates in discussion with interdisciplinary team; communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, including population‑appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational and safety aspects; performs bedside point‑of‑care testing; utilizes organization policies and procedures; organizes and prioritizes care; consults with resources timely for complex care issues and high‑risk discharge planning. Leadership – With assistance, develops goals to promote professional growth; achieves goals within identified timeframe; is knowledgeable about collaborative activities; participates in development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement; uses communication systems; promotes cost‑effective care; gives feedback to co‑workers; promotes a safe, clean and secure environment. Patient Assessment – Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities; includes physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs; synthesizes assessment data before communicating; assesses and anticipates discharge needs; develops relationships with families to promote advocacy. Planning – Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update plan of care; uses multidisciplinary resources; communicates planning; addresses cultural and ethnic issues; prioritizes tasks for complex patients. Research – Reads journals with applicable studies; brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements One (1) year of nursing experience.
