General Dentist - Pediatric Focus Location: Los Angeles, CA 90016 Pay: $800 per diem Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm Position Summary Health Bridge partners with Federally Qualified Health Centers serving children, adults, and families in South Los Angeles. The General Dentist provides high-quality, patient-centered, culturally responsive dental care in an in-person community health setting. The Dentist will primarily provide dental services to pediatric patients, while also providing preventive, diagnostic, restorative, urgent, and ongoing dental care to adult patients within the provider’s approved scope of practice and granted clinical privileges. The contracted dentist will primarily provide dental care to pediatric patients, with the expectation and requirement that they are also able to evaluate and treat adult patients within the scope of their California dental license, clinical privileges, and the terms of the applicable contractor agreement. Scope of Contracted Services Pediatric Dental Services (Primary) Comprehensive and periodic oral examinations for pediatric patients and adults Diagnosis, treatment planning, and case presentation for pediatric patients and their guardians Preventive dental services, including prophylaxis, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, and oral hygiene instruction Restorative dental care appropriate to pediatric patients, including composite and amalgam restorations, SSCPulp therapy (pulpotomy, pulpectomy) appropriate to primary dentition when within clinical privileges Space maintainer placement and monitoring when within clinical privileges Oral health education to patients and caregivers Screening for oral developmental concerns and appropriate referral Adult Dental Services (As Required) Comprehensive and periodic oral examinations for adult patients Diagnosis, treatment planning, and restorative care for adult patients Preventive services, including prophylaxis, SRPs and Perio maintenance Extractions, Crowns, Restorations, and Dentures Urgent and emergency dental care for both pediatric and adult patients Cross-Population Services Interpretation and documentation of clinical radiographs (bitewing, periapical, panoramic, occlusal) Prescribing medications within license, privileges, and applicable law Referral to specialists (orthodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, etc.) as clinically indicated Care coordination with medical, behavioral health, and other integrated care team members as applicable Accurate, complete, and timely documentation of all patient encounters in the Clinic’s electronic health record (EHR) system Compliance with Clinic infection control, patient safety, and quality improvement protocols Participation in peer review, quality assurance, and utilization review activities as required Compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including HIPAA Who We’re Looking For Required Qualifications: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental school Active, unrestricted California dental license in good standing with the Dental Board of California at the time of contracting and throughout the contract period No disciplinary actions, restrictions, or probationary conditions on California dental license (or any dental license held in any state) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (American Heart Association or equivalent) DEA registration if the contractor will be prescribing controlled substances at the Clinic CURES registration (California Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System) if the contractor holds a DEA registration and will prescribe controlled substances Demonstrated competence and experience treating pediatric dental patients (children and adolescents) Ability to provide general dental services to adult patients within the scope of their California dental license and clinical privileges Ability to perform urgent and emergency dental care Eligibility for FQHC credentialing and privileging per HRSA Health Center Program requirements Eligibility for payer enrollment, including Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal, if required for contracted services Not currently excluded, debarred, or sanctioned from participation in federal health care programs (Medicare, Medicaid), as verified through OIG LEIE and SAM.gov Ability to meet all occupational health requirements, including applicable immunization requirements and communicable disease screening Ability to work in person at T.H.E Clinic’s California location(s) for all contracted service days Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in an FQHC, community health center, public health clinic, school-based health center, or other safety-net dental setting Pediatric-focused dental experience or additional training in pediatric dentistry Completion of a General Practice Residency (GPR), Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), pediatric dental residency, or comparable postdoctoral training Experience treating children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN), including patients with physical, developmental, behavioral, or medical complexity Bilingual Spanish language proficiency (speaking, reading, and writing) preferred given the patient population served Familiarity with Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal billing, documentation, and compliance requirements Familiarity with FQHC workflows, sliding fee schedules, and community health center operations Experience with eClinicalWorks EHR systems Independent Contractor Terms As an independent contractor, the dentist acknowledges and agrees to the following: the contractor is solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local income taxes and self-employment taxes, maintaining an active unrestricted California dental license at the contractor’s own expense, completing required continuing education, maintaining current BLS, DEA, and CURES registrations, maintaining professional liability insurance coverage, not receiving employee benefits, providing services using independent professional judgment, and may not subcontract or delegate services without prior written approval from the Clinic. California-Specific Compliance Notes Dental Licensure : The contracted dentist’s California dental license must remain active, unrestricted, and in good standing throughout the contract term. The Clinic will conduct periodic license verification. Any disciplinary action, suspension, restriction, or modification to the contractor’s California dental license must be reported to the Clinic immediately and will be grounds for contract suspension or termination. BLS Certification : Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required at all times during the contract term. Expired BLS certifications must be renewed prior to continuation of services. Controlled Substance Prescribing : If the contracted dentist holds a DEA registration and prescribes controlled substances, they must comply with CURES requirements. Mandated Reporter Requirements : The contracted dentist is a mandated reporter under California law. They must report known or reasonably suspected child abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities and complete mandated reporter training. Independent Contractor Classification : The Clinic should confirm the independent contractor classification appropriate under California law prior to execution of the contractor agreement. Physical and Work Environment Requirements : The contracted dentist must work in person in a clinical dental operatory at the Clinic’s California location(s) for all contracted service days. They must stand or sit for extended periods, perform repetitive hand motions, and wear required PPE.
