Lead Structural Engineer - Nuclear (Multiple Locations)

DescriptionBurns & McDonnell’s Power Global Practice is seeking to hire experienced structural engineers to our Nuclear team focusing on both operating Nuclear Power Plants and new nuclear power projects, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), microreactors and Advanced Reactors. Our Nuclear team has domestic and international experience providing consulting, design, analysis, and pre-construction planning services for operating nuclear power plants, nuclear refurbishments, as well as new SMRs and advanced reactors. We deliver solutions for these and other challenging projects every day. As a structural engineer, you will serve as part of our design team with the ability to work on a full range of projects in engineering, procurement, and construction management related to the design, operation, maintenance, modification, and licensing of nuclear generating stations.ResponsibilitiesPerform and/or lead structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.Interface with clients on projects to communicate progress, resolve comments and/or open items, and provide in-person presence for meetings or site technical support.Manage small project budgets and schedules for technical deliverables.Lead the development or modification of drawings for project needs.Lead the design and analysis of structural components for project needs that are set forth by the project managers.Apply expert knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the structural services industry.Review structural vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for effective management of change orders.Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.Leads field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.Support the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the mechanical engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.Performs other duties as assigned. QualificationsBachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years mechanical engineering experience required orBachelor's degree in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 7 years structural engineering experience required orMaster's degree in Structural Engineering and 6 years of mechanical engineering experience required.Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred.Experience with nuclear plant structural design, standard design process, plant modification packages, configuration management, and ASME NQA-1 (safety-related) requirements.Ability to be authorized for unescorted access at a U.S. nuclear power generating facility.Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of structural design codes (ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, etc.). Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.Ability to travel.
