Clinical Nurse - Part-time 20 hours per week The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC) is the hub for groundbreaking early-phase clinical trials, supporting more than 700 cutting-edge studies across 22 departments. With a 41-bed treatment area and a full-function laboratory, the 12,660-square-foot CTRC provides a dedicated environment for first-in-human and Phase I and II clinical research where innovation meets patient care. The Clinical Nurse plays a vital role in supporting complex clinical trials while delivering specialized patient care in a fast-paced research setting. The Clinical Nurse collaborates with physicians, research teams, and healthcare professionals to ensure safe treatment administration and exceptional patient outcomes. The Clinical Nurse contributes directly to advancing cancer therapies that impact patients locally and globally. The ideal candidate will have a nursing degree, current nursing licensure, and at least two years of clinical nursing experience. Preferred experience includes oncology, research, medical-surgical, or cardiac nursing. Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, research-driven environment while effectively educating patients and caregivers are highly desirable. Minimum $32.69/hour - Midpoint $50.58/hour - Maximum $68.51/hour The typical work schedule is part-time, 20 hours/week, shift: 9:00am-7:30pm, with rotating weekends and holidays and late patient coverage based on business needs. Patient Care & Infusion Management Administer and monitor systemic cancer therapies and injectable infusions for adult patients. Deliver research protocol treatments and standard-of-care therapies safely and accurately. Administer therapies through oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous routes. Perform independent double-checks for chemotherapy administration. Perform IV insertions and manage venous access devices. Research Trial Support Support first-in-human and Phase I and II clinical trials. Collaborate with research teams to ensure protocol compliance and patient safety. Provide care in a dedicated clinical research environment supporting more than 700 active trials. Patient Assessment & Education Assess patients receiving cancer therapies and infusion treatments. Educate patients, family members, and caregivers regarding treatment plans and future care needs. Facilitate early detection and management of treatment-related side effects. Promote effective patient self-management of therapy-related symptoms. Safety & Clinical Monitoring Monitor patients for adverse reactions and treatment-related complications. Safely handle and dispose of chemotherapy and hazardous medications. Minimize infection risks among immunocompromised or potentially immunocompromised patients. Administer blood products, IVIG, growth factors, antibiotics, electrolytes, and hydration therapies. Collaboration & Communication Develop collaborative professional relationships with physicians and healthcare team members. Partner with research personnel to coordinate patient treatment activities. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Contribute to a high-performing, patient-focused clinical environment. Other duties as assigned EDUCATION Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing. Work Experience Preferred: Bachelor's degree with at least two years of clinical nursing experience preferably in oncology, research, med/surg and or cardiac. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license. Upon Hire and Required: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire and Required: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support If working in the following department: Nrsg Post Anesthesia Care Unit (600160). Upon Hire Preferred: OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification Upon Hire Preferred: Certification in specialty practice area. Upon Hire OTHER REQUIREMENTS: All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
