Custodian

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the facility, ensuring a safe, pleasant, neat environment for staff, students, and visitors. This role involves both day and evening shift responsibilities and may include minor maintenance tasks.

Evening Shift Responsibilities:

• Paint areas as directed by the supervisor, ensuring that the facility remains in good condition.
• Assist with setting up and dismantling equipment for events or activities.
• Ensure the facility is secure by locking doors and windows as needed.
• Clean and maintain assigned areas.
• Secure building and grounds.
• Set up evening events and assist in unloading delivery trucks.
• Check heating and cooling systems for proper function as directed by the supervisor.
• Take down the flag where applicable.
• Wash windows, mirrors, etc. as needed.
• Perform minor maintenance work as needed.
• Remove snow and ice as needed (with the support of the maintenance team).
• Assist students, teachers, and principal(s) as needed.
• Assist the Director of Maintenance and Facilities as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

General Responsibilities:

• Perform routine cleaning tasks, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal.
• Maintain and replenish cleaning supplies and equipment as necessary.
• Report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor promptly.
• Comply with safety guidelines and maintain a safe work environment.

Qualifications:

• Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of safe cleaning practices and the use of cleaning equipment.
• Basic maintenance skills, including light carpentry and painting.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness.
• Excellent time management skills.

Terms of Employment:

Position is full-time, 8 hours per day. Employment is year-round, consisting of 12 months per year.
