Production Supervisor

Plastic Production Team Leader

Provide leadership, training, and direct supervision to a production team responsible for the production of plastics. Responsibilities include maintaining a high awareness of quality, safety, and teamwork within the team. Since MOCOM adheres to ISO 45001 & 14001 (Safety and Environmental Standards) all employees have responsibilities that include maintaining a high awareness of quality, safety, environmental conservation of energy, water and resources.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist operators with daily operations on the process floor.
• Directly supervise Shift Leads and production team members, including coaching, performance feedback, and accountability for shift-level safety, quality, and production results.
• Prepare and adjust operations schedule and coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure production meets specifications.
• Review, complete, and file daily production records and data. This includes quality records, closing orders, inventory, production statistics, work orders, and general process information. Collect information as required.
• Monitor and adjust process conditions.
• Issue instructions, delegate assignments, and ensure proper completion of daily tasks including coordination of tasks between departments or other shifts.
• Deploy Shift Leads to the process floor as subject matter experts, directing their training and troubleshooting activities to support operators and resolve process issues.
• Designate and prepare a Shift Lead to provide supervisory coverage during scheduled absences (e.g., vacation).
• Inspect the process line for possible problems or items in need of attention. This includes any machinery or raw materials that need adjustments to maintain quality product or a safe work environment.
• Ensure the process related activities comply with the requirements of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, VDA 6.3 or customer specific requirements.
• Identify risks to the production process and report to the Production Manager or Operations Director.
• Train employees on the identification of risks to the production process and the proper reporting structure.
• Work as a member of the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) team identifying risks in the production process. Provide recommended actions to mitigate the risks identified in the production process.
• Responsible for issuing incident reports for process, safety or other problems.
• Prepare and initiate training requirements for the team including safety classes, procedure updates, and recertification of necessary job tasks pertaining to Company requirements. Audit work instructions and initiate changes when necessary.
• Maintain and update personnel files and data. This includes updating and tracking timecards, scheduling vacation and holiday leave, informing operators of policy and procedure changes, and maintaining files for review purposes.
• Communicate with shift members and handle any personal or team issues, problems, or questions that may be present.
• Develop timesaving methods and ideas for process improvements including computer programs and check sheets or procedure changes.
• All other duties as assigned.

Skills and Specifications

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Proficient with SAP or related systems.
• Extensive knowledge of FMEA, SPC, IATF 16949 (Process Development), VDA 6.3 (Process Development).
• Mechanical aptitude; problem solving and interpersonal skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to share knowledge with other team members.
• Ability to set priorities.
• Ability to self-motivate and take initiative.
• Knowledge of record keeping techniques and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of user support techniques and procedures.

Education and Qualifications

• Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
• A two-year college degree; or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school; or, completion of specialized training courses conducted by equipment vendors; or job specific skills acquired through on-the-job training or apprenticeship program.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience is required in lieu of the stated education and experience requirements.

The employee must frequently lift and move up to 55 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet, humid or hot conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required.
