Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care (IMC/PCU/Stepdown)

Wausau, WI | Inpatient / Observation Unit

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | 13 Weeks | Rotating 12-Hour Shifts (Days/Nights, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM / 7:00 PM–7:30 AM) | Expected 36 hours/week | Every other weekend and every other holiday required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in an 8-bed observation unit with a 1:4 patient ratio, managing conditions such as anemia, cellulitis, COPD, CHF, dehydration, pre-op, urology, and GI diagnoses
• Administer and monitor IV drips including Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, Insulin, and Heparin
• Read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips; EKG competency exam required during compliance/onboarding
• Manage a high volume of admissions and discharges, with average patient stays up to 48 hours
• Float to all inpatient units as needed
• Collaborate with team members and ancillary staff to ensure optimal patient experience while managing tasks independently and efficiently

Required Qualifications

• Active Wisconsin RN License required
• BLS certification required (ARC or AHA)
• ACLS certification required (ARC or AHA)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• At least 1 prior travel assignment required
• EPIC charting experience required
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips required

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Background in observation units or step-down/MS/Telemetry settings
• Experience managing drip medications in an acute or intermediate care environment
• Demonstrated ability to adapt positively to frequent changes throughout a shift
• Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach
