Patient Care DirectorThe Patient Care Director holds 24/7 operational responsibility and executive oversight for clinical care delivery, staff engagement, and operational performance within their designated clinical business unit. Reporting directly to nursing executive leadership (ACNO/CNO), this role drives continuous improvement in patient care quality, patient safety, clinical practice standards, and financial performance aligned with organizational strategic goals.Working closely with interdisciplinary care teams and medical staff, the Director promotes an integrated model of person-centered care, fosters a culture of evidence-based nursing practice, and ensures full compliance with quality, regulatory, and accreditation standards.Our organization is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality, patient-centered care. Leadership team members are expected to model our foundational organizational values across all professional interactions:Integrity: Maintaining honesty, ethical standards, and transparency in all actions and communications.Compassion: Demonstrating empathy, active listening, and responsiveness to patient, family, and team needs.Accountability: Taking ownership of operational, clinical, and culture-driven outcomes.Respect: Valuing team members and community partners while fostering an inclusive, diverse environment.Excellence: Taking personal and professional pride in exceeding benchmarks and setting high standards of practice.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic & Operational LeadershipCare Delivery Oversight: Direct daily clinical operations, patient throughput, and care delivery models within the unit to ensure safe, effective, and timely patient care.Financial Management: Manage unit operational budgets, track fiscal performance, monitor supply productivity, and lead systematic resource optimizations in collaboration with the ACNO/CNO.Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Build strong, collaborative partnerships with medical staff leadership, clinical specialists, ancillary departments, and executive leadership to align operational priorities.Quality, Safety & Regulatory ComplianceClinical Standards: Maintain and enforce evidence-based clinical practice standards and quality improvement initiatives across all shifts.Regulatory Readiness: Ensure continuous department readiness and compliance with licensing bodies, state regulations, and hospital accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS).Performance Metrics: Monitor key metrics including patient satisfaction, clinical quality outcomes, nurse-sensitive indicators, and hospital-acquired condition rates to implement systematic improvements.Talent Management & CultureStaff Engagement & Development: Oversee recruitment, onboarding, professional mentoring, performance evaluations, and retention strategies for unit personnel.Leadership Culture: Cultivate a culture of continuous learning, shared governance, psychological safety, and accountability among nursing staff and unit leaders.Direct Care Capability: Maintain clinical competency to support unit operations or step into direct patient care during surge periods or unexpected clinical demands.Position RequirementsLicensure & CertificationsActive Registered Nurse (RN) License: Current, unrestricted state RN license or active Multistate/Compact RN license.Basic Life Support (BLS): Current AHA BLS Certification required upon hire.Preferred Certifications: Advanced nursing leadership credentials (e.g., NE-BC, NEA-BC, or CNML) preferred.EducationBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): Required from an accredited school of nursing.Master's Degree: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Master of Health Administration (MHA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), or related advanced healthcare degree strongly preferred.ExperienceClinical Background: Minimum of 5 years of acute care clinical nursing experience within the designated specialty area preferred.Leadership Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive nursing management or supervisory experience (e.g., Nurse Manager, Assistant Director, or Clinical Manager).Knowledge, Skills & AttributesLeadership & Strategy: Proven track record in operational management, critical thinking, problem-solving, and leading culture-driven initiatives in an acute care setting.Communication: Superior written and verbal communication skills with a history of building trust with physicians, nursing staff, executive team members, and patients.Organizational Acumen: Strong financial literacy, understanding of nursing administration, staffing models, and healthcare regulatory compliance.
