Part time cashier

Cashier Responsible for the efficient and accurate processing of customer sales transactions at the front registers. Maintains control of cash, ensures customer satisfaction, and safeguards company assets. Works in a fast‑paced, high‑volume retail environment while supporting team goals and upholding Fresh Thyme’s commitment to quality service. Responsibilities Walk the store before each shift to verify promotional and sale items and conduct produce walk and weekly testing. Compute bills, itemize lists, and prepare tickets showing amounts due. Receive payment by cash, check, credit card, gift card, or automatic debit. Issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks, or change to customers. Operate cash register, scan price‑coded items, enter PLUs or UPCs manually, compile the printed list, and display the cost, tax, and rebates on the monitor screen. Greet customers, respond promptly to their needs, and maintain a friendly, energetic demeanor. Keep checkout areas clean and orderly, ensuring no personnel items remain in the area. Issue coupons and rain checks. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred 1–2 years of grocery retail experience in a Front End department. Experience in the natural foods industry is a plus. Highest level of customer service at all times. Ability to adapt to a high‑volume retail environment and work cross‑functionally. Initiative, flexibility, and strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills. Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Excellent organizational, multitasking, and team‑support skills. Willingness to work varied hours and days as business dictates. Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures. Demonstrated ability to use a Point of Sale (POS) system. Physical Demands Sit rarely 1–2 hours; stand continuously 1–8 hours; walk continuously 2–8 hours; drive frequently 2–4 hours. Balance frequently (34–66%); bend, climb, crawl, crouch/squat, kneel, and reach (forward & overhead) occasionally. Lifting or carrying 0–10 lbs. occasionally; 11–25 lbs. occasionally; 26–50 lbs. occasionally; 51–100 lbs. never. Repetitive motions in both right and left hands; fine manipulation occasionally; pushing and pulling occasionally. Exposure to occasional extreme temperatures and ventilation/exhaust fans.
