Senior Safety Specialist, Mission Critical

Role Summary The Senior Safety Specialist will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine and complex construction projects. This position will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, identifying and documenting abatement of hazardous conditions, writing reports, and performing trend analysis. All activities will support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn. Key Role Responsibilities Coordinates and implements the field safety program for routine construction projects. Conducts regular walk‑through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and company policies. Conducts safety audits on assigned projects, identifying, documenting, and recommending abatement of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions to internal and external clients. Utilizes internal safety management systems to document findings and track abatement techniques and closure. Conducts project‑specific new hire orientation and oversees drug and alcohol policy compliance. Monitors the implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractor safety programs. Attends project pre‑planning, progress, and other relevant project‑related meetings to discuss safety matters. Supports field leadership in the implementation of safety program specifics, including meetings, committees, and related activities, and chairs the project safety committee. Assists in the investigation of project‑related accidents, conferring with the supervisor to determine root cause and recommend changes to eliminate recurrence. Coordinates with injured employees and clinics to ensure treatment and timely return to work, compiling progress summary reports of injuries. Monitors site safety incentive program. Possesses advanced safety knowledge to identify complex hazards, provide complex abatement solutions, and utilize in‑depth knowledge of equipment, laws, and work processes for project‑specific safety recommendations. Contributes advanced communication skills and plays an active role in meetings. Uses safety management systems to perform trend analysis, identify safety trends, and recommend mitigations. Provides guidance and training on basic and intermediate safety topics for personnel. Assists safety leadership during insurance audits. Oversees complex projects, including one large or complex project or multiple projects. Manages controlled insurance program projects. Develops and implements training strategies and processes, partner with leadership on training plans, and monitor training efficacy. Provides in‑person and virtual training sessions and ensures training record retention. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to perform work accurately and completely in a timely manner. Advanced verbal and written communication skills. Intermediate proficiency in MS Office. Knowledge of all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations and ability to enforce them. Advanced proficiency in company safety software, processes, and tools. Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures. Skill in building and maintaining relationships with team members across projects. Knowledge of testing protocols for environmental hazards. Intermediate proficiency in construction technology. Education Bachelor’s degree in a safety and health‑related field (preferred). Equivalent relevant experience may be considered. Experience 5+ years construction safety experience (required).
