Job Title: Registered Nurse - Surgical Room Profession: Nursing Specialty: RN Medical Center Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: 2 years in ORT, Surgical Assist; 1 year as Anesthesia Tech License: RN Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Strong CVOR background is required across all specialties. Ability to work independently with minimal guidance in various surgical cases. Experience in a fast-paced environment. Description: Level III Trauma Center. Magnet Designation. Comprehensive Stroke Center. 938 total beds available. The Surgical Room has 8 CVOR beds. On average, 10 cases are performed each day. Patients typically undergo cardio and thoracic surgeries including CABG, TAVR, and valve replacements. Robotic procedures include lobectomy and hernia repair. Surgical team will include two RNs per case: Circulator and Med RN. Travelers will circulate only. Patient ratios are 1:1. Required skills for Anesthesia Tech include operating machines for blood gases, TEE’s, and ultrasounds. Specific knowledge of machines is not necessary; the ability to operate them is sufficient. Support on the unit includes a Department Supervisor and Manager, along with a Team Lead without case assignment. Anesthesia is available 24/7. A Surgical Assistant Lead will assist with instrumentation and preference cards. A House Supervisor is present 24/7. Weekend support consists of a small weekend staff with a shared Supervisor for all operating rooms. The charting system used is EPIC, required for RNs but not required for Anesthesia Techs. Other equipment includes Alaris, Pyxis, and Davinci XI. There will be no floating for the RN position. Anesthesia Techs may float between CVOR, Main OR, and Cath Lab. Scheduling details include start times for RNs from 0500 to 0630, and for Anesthesia Techs from 0530 to 0630. Weekend rotation is on-call only. Approval is possible for time off up to 7 days; any additional time requires approval. On Call: Once per month during weekends for 24-hour call. End of shift call may occur up to once per week. A 30-minute response time is expected. No sleep room is available. Holiday expectations involve being on-call only as needed. All staff cannot work more than 60 hours a week or 5 consecutive shifts longer than 12 hours. Scrub color will be provided. Documentation of pain levels before and after medication administration is necessary. The pain score must align with the medication ordered. Cafeteria and Starbucks facilities are available on-site for staff.
