Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION Provides direct supervision and operational leadership for a school-based behavioral health program serving San Francisco Unified School District-enrolled youth and their families. Leads day-to-day program operations, including workflow coordination, caseload distribution, and staffing, while ensuring delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. Job Summary Functions as the on-site operational and supervisory lead, accountable for day‑to‑day performance, staff support, and service delivery. Works in partnership with the Clinical Director for clinical and programmatic oversight, implements clinical standards, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports quality improvement initiatives. Maintains close collaboration with school leadership, oversees program admissions and intake, and promotes a safe and therapeutic environment. May provide limited direct clinical services to support program needs. Responsibilities Lead daily program operations, including caseload distribution, staffing coordination, and workflow optimization. Monitor productivity, access, and service delivery to ensure effective functioning. Identify operational challenges and implement solutions to improve efficiency and care delivery. Oversee program admissions, including referral review, intake coordination, and enrollment processes. Provide clinical and administrative supervision to behavioral health staff, including licensed and unlicensed providers, in accordance with licensure and regulatory requirements. Supervise associate-level clinicians when qualified or collaborate with the Clinical Director for oversight. Conduct performance evaluations, coach staff, and address performance issues in alignment with UCSF policies. Support onboarding, training, and ongoing staff development. Ensure adherence to clinical standards, documentation requirements, and regulatory guidelines. Oversee documentation quality and collaborate with Quality Assurance staff to monitor compliance, identify trends, and implement improvements. Support audit readiness and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Provide guidance on complex clinical situations, crisis intervention, and treatment planning; escalates high-risk or complex cases. Provide direct clinical services (individual, family, and group therapy) as needed for program support. Coordinate and implement staff training related to clinical practice, documentation standards, and program workflows. Identify staff development needs and support professional growth through coaching, mentorship, and education. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (psychiatry, nursing, primary care, SFUSD partners, community agencies) to support program and system-level goals. Maintain liaison between program staff, school partners, and UCSF leadership; facilitate coordination of care. Assist in managing program resources, including staffing and productivity, and recommend improvements. Support day-to-day milieu management to ensure a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for youth and families. Qualifications Required Qualifications Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field. Licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences in a behavioral health discipline (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPCC). At least two (2) years post-licensure clinical experience in a behavioral health setting. Minimum two (2) years in a lead or supervisory capacity. Demonstrated ability or emerging competency in supervising, mentoring, and developing behavioral health staff. Experience in school-based or community-based behavioral health programs. Ability to manage multiple priorities and execute plans to meet deadlines. Organizational skills for coordinating staff schedules and unit operations. Experience working within interdisciplinary care models. Knowledge of specialized applications and EHR systems used in behavioral health clinics. Proficiency in evidence-based practices and empirically supported treatment for adolescents and families/caregivers. Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict‑resolution skills for engaging with patients, families, advocates, and staff. Knowledge of psychiatric service operations and ability to apply concepts in an intensive care setting. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Medi‑Cal and CalAIM reform. License/Certification Licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences in a behavioral health discipline (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPCC).
