Position – Avionics Technician

Location: Phoenix, AZ (DVT)

Compensation: $29.00–$48.00 per hour, based on experience and technician level

We are currently seeking an experienced Avionics Technician to support the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, testing, modification, and installation of avionics and electrical systems on flight school and general aviation aircraft.

The Avionics Technician will perform avionics and electrical maintenance activities in accordance with company procedures, approved technical data, applicable Federal Aviation Administration regulations, and the company's Repair Station Manual.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, test, repair, and maintain aircraft avionics and electrical systems.

  • Diagnose avionics and electrical discrepancies and determine the appropriate corrective actions.

  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, maintenance manuals, parts catalogs, engineering drawings, service bulletins, airworthiness directives, and other approved technical data.

  • Build, modify, and repair aircraft wiring harnesses using approved aircraft wiring practices.

  • Perform soldering, crimping, wire termination, routing, and electrical connection repairs.

  • Perform testing and recertification required under Title 14 CFR Parts 91.411 and 91.413.

  • Perform avionics equipment modifications, upgrades, and installations.

  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair Garmin G1000 avionics systems and associated components.

  • Troubleshoot and repair aircraft flight simulators and flight training devices.

  • Use ground support equipment, avionics test equipment, shop equipment, and hand tools as required.

  • Operate company vehicles, including vans, trucks, golf carts, and aircraft, when required.

  • Complete all required aircraft maintenance records and documentation for work performed.

  • Ensure maintenance documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with company and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain a basic tool set necessary to perform assigned avionics and electrical work.

  • Maintain clean, safe, organized, and professional work areas.

  • Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards.

  • Perform duties in accordance with the applicable Repair Station Manual.

  • Work assigned shifts based on operational and maintenance requirements.

  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Summary of Education, Experience and Certification

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant license preferred.

  • Federal Communications Commission license or certification is considered an asset.

  • Minimum of five recent and consecutive years of aircraft avionics experience required.

  • Experience performing testing and recertification under Title 14 CFR Parts 91.411 and 91.413 required.

  • Minimum of one year of Garmin G1000 experience required.

  • Experience maintaining Piper aircraft preferred.

  • Experience working in an FAA-certified Part 145 Repair Station preferred.

  • Basic set of hand tools required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of aircraft avionics and electrical systems.

  • Knowledge of AC 43.13 standard aircraft wiring practices.

  • Knowledge of aircraft wiring, electrical connections, soldering, crimping, routing, and termination practices.

  • Ability to independently troubleshoot avionics and electrical discrepancies.

  • Ability to perform avionics inspections, testing, repairs, modifications, and installations.

  • Ability to build and repair aircraft wiring harnesses.

  • Ability to perform testing and recertification required under Title 14 CFR Parts 91.411 and 91.413.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair Garmin G1000 avionics systems.

  • Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, maintenance manuals, parts catalogs, engineering drawings, service bulletins, and airworthiness directives.

  • Familiarity with ground support equipment, common avionics test equipment, shop equipment, and aircraft maintenance tools.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair aircraft flight simulators and flight training devices.

  • Ability to complete accurate aircraft maintenance records and required paperwork.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

  • Extreme attention to detail.

  • Ability to identify problems or potential problems and develop effective solutions.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to manage assigned work and remain productive without continuous direction.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications preferred.

  • Ability to operate company vehicles and aircraft as required.

  • Ability to work different shifts based on operational requirements.

Schedule

  • Full-time.

  • Monday through Thursday.

  • 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Four 10-hour shifts.

  • Must be flexible and available to work other shifts when required by operational needs.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The employee will work in hangar, ramp, shop, office, simulator, and outdoor aircraft maintenance environments. The position involves extensive exposure to aircraft, flight simulators, ground support equipment, shop equipment, tools, solvents, aviation gasoline, noise, and changing outdoor conditions.

The employee may be required to operate general office equipment, company vehicles, shop equipment, test equipment, tools, and aircraft.

The employee may be required to sit or stand for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in various physical positions.

The employee must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

GAL AeroStaff Contract Employee Benefits

Eligible GAL AeroStaff contract employees may receive:
