Patient Care Tech-Ortho/Neuro Full Time Nights

Overview The Patient Care Tech supports patient care under the direction of the clinical RN or physician. Responsibilities include clinical tasks such as specimen handling, monitoring, and patient assistance, while maintaining safety and comfort throughout the shift. Responsibilities Collect, label, and transport specimens as assigned. Obtain 12‑lead EKGs. Discontinue saline locks and indwelling urinary catheters. Discontinue telemetry monitoring packs. Perform bladder scans. Perform point‑of‑care testing as appropriate. Assist patients with personal hygiene and nutritional needs per plan of care. Conduct hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the clinical RN. Obtain and document patient care data as directed. Assist with patient ambulation and positioning as directed in the plan of care. Support the health‑care team in meeting individualized patient needs. Respond to patient call lights and requests for assistance promptly. Help maintain a clinical care environment that supports patient, family, and staff safety. Assist with post‑mortem care. Collaborate with nursing leadership to identify learning needs, complete annual required training, and update knowledge through periodic in‑services. Participate in performance improvement activities to achieve unit targets and exceptional performance. Additional Responsibilities as Safety Attendant/Telesitter Monitor Maintain visual observation at all times with no distractions. Provide prompt notification to the care team if the patient requires assistance. Monitor and maintain patient environmental safety, notifying the care team if any hazards are discovered. Perform care checks in accordance with the care plan. Follow appropriate policy. Additional Responsibilities under Direction of Department Leadership Answer, screen, and direct incoming calls. Facilitate obtaining a hard copy of the patient’s advance directive if indicated and place it in the Electronic Medical Record. Manage admissions through the Electronic Bed Board. Ensure unit readiness for EMR downtime and facilitate data recovery following downtime. Qualifications Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited CNA program and listed on the Illinois CNA Registry, OR nursing student who has successfully completed one clinical rotation (must provide written verification). BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
