If you have no field, type "None."* If you have previously applied, make sure your information is current as you can transfer it to another application.* Prior to submitting your application, verify all information for accuracy and ensure you have uploaded all appropriate documents. **Once submitted, you will not be able to edit your application** other than to change your contact information.If you have any questions or need additional assistance, please contact the Office of Human Resources via email at View email address on click.appcast.io or by calling View phone number on click.appcast.io.**Job Title:**Groundskeeper**Job Family:**Service Workers**Full-Time/Part-Time:**Full time**Compensation Grade:**2H**Pay Type:**Hourly**Department:**Golf course grounds**Job Summary:**To maintain the grass, bunkers, shrubbery, flowers, trees, and general appearance of the golf course property.**Job Description:****Job Duties**:Maintains the grass on the golf course property by:* Mowing using fairway mowers, tee mowers, approach and fringe mowers, greens mowers, trim mowers, and gang mowers.* Operating weed eaters, edgers, clippers, power pruners.* Operating spreaders, tillers, and other implements.* Watering grass using irrigation system, dragging hoses, sprinklers, etc.* Aerifying, removing cores mechanically or by hand.* Top-dressing mechanically or by hand.* Picking up litter, limbs, dead animals, etc.* Spraying pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides).* Applying fertilizers (granular and liquid).* Cleaning up leaves using sweepers, blowers, vacuums, hand rakes, backpack blowers.* Changing holes on course and practice greens and changing tee markers.* Monitoring frost and making decisions for allowing golf carts out as assigned.Maintains bunkers by:* Using riding rake, hand rakes.* Mechanically edging, chemical edging.* Restores bunkers after rains by shoveling sand back to thin areas.* Removes debris by operating blowers, hand raking.Maintains shrubbery, plants, trees, and flower beds:* Planting, digging holes by back hoe, auger, or shovel.* Watering by hoses, irrigation system.* Pruning shrubs and trees using hand or gasoline-powered shears, chain saws, pole saws, and ladders, front-end loader, or bucket truck as necessary.* Weeding shrubbery and flower beds.* Spraying pesticides.* Removing shrubs, flowers, tree stumps, trees using back hoe, shovel, and stump grinder.Maintains grounds equipment by:* Washing mowers, tractors, etc.* Sharpening blades.* Checking oil, fuel, and filters.* Notifying mechanic of problems that need attention.Maintains and repairs irrigation system by:* Repairing sprinkler heads, valves, pipes, etc.* Repairing irrigation leaks, blow-outs.* Inspecting and checking satellite stations.Maintains other facilities such as ball washers, fountains, bathrooms, maintenance shop (inside and outside), etc., including clearing snow from walks and clubhouse parking lot as needed.Follows safety procedures.Completes performance review process with supervisor/employees to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals.Communicates openly and recognizes contributions of co-workers and supervisor.Pursues professional development to keep pace with demands for services and information; including maintaining up to date information about the department and university. Must be accessible via cell phone during work hours and on nights/weekends.Performs various other duties as directed by the supervisor. Work involves limited choice with regard to the selection of appropriate tools, methods or materials.Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard check or crosscheck. Causes little difficulty or loss of time to correct.**Reports To**: Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.Completed work is referred to supervisor for review.**Education/Skill Requirements:*** High School graduate with 1 – 2 years experience in related field.* Ability to read and understand instructions for the use of machinery and chemicals.* Ability to calculate the amount of material needed/used for a task.* Valid South Carolina drivers license required.* Experience in the operations of grounds tools/equipment.**Work Conditions:**Work is performed primarily outside under variable weather conditions with daily exposure to noise, dust, heat, cold, dampness, rain, dirt, chemicals, and fumes.Work requires:* Frequent lifting grounds equipment into and out of pickup trucks.* Continuous reaching, bending, stooping when pruning shrubs, flowers, hedges, etc.* Frequent pushing mowers, blowers, edgers.* Frequent driving/operating mowers/tractors, etc.* Frequent operating weed eaters by holding them above the ground and mowing them back and forth while walking.* Frequent lifting bags (up to 50 lbs.) of seed, fertilizer, etc.* Frequent using hand tools such as spades, clippers, shovels, and wheel barrows.* Crew members may be subject to call-back if there is an emergency such as a tree down or an irrigation line broken.**Schedule:**Spring/Summer: 6 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday - FridayFall/Winter: 7 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday* Approximately 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year.* Weekend work required every other weekend, generally 6-10 or 7-11 AM (some exceptions).* One weekday off, every other week.* Some weekend afternoon work required preparing for tournaments.* Some overtime work required.* Some work required on some holidays. #J-18808-Ljbffr
