Class A CDL Truck Driver

Subsidiary: OmniSource Overview We are looking for a reliable and safety-focused Class A CDL Truck Driver to join our team! As a Class A CDL Truck Driver, you will drive a diesel-powered truck and trailer combination to pick-up, transport, and deliver scrap metal in a timely manner focusing on safety and customer service. You will play a critical role in ensuring timely deliveries, maintaining accurate logs, and adhering to all DOT regulations and company safety standards. You’ll also work closely with dispatch and field teams to coordinate schedules and support overall operations. Your attention to detail, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety will be essential in delivering exceptional service and keeping projects on track. Inspect trailers and truck for defects, ensuring safe operating condition before, during, and after trips. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, noting defects on a DVIR for repairs. Check shipping paperwork to verify correctness. Drive the truck to and from its destination in accordance with Federal and State regulations while complying with company policies. Apply commercial driving skills by maneuvering vehicles at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, and tight loading/unloading areas. Ensure all shipping documentation required to move the product is available for inspection and accompanies the shipment upon delivery. Maintain records required for compliance with state and federal regulations, including driver's logs, fuel purchases, mileage, and other company-required records. Accurately complete all necessary paperwork related to truck operation and scrap movement daily. Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures. Report all accidents involving driver or company equipment. Report highway safety hazards noted on route. Promptly report delays due to breakdowns, weather, traffic conditions, or other emergencies affecting pick-up or delivery. Represent the company and trucking industry professionally through responsible driving and customer service. Possess 2 years of verifiable tractor/trailer experience; or 1 year of tractor/trailer experience with a graduation certificate from an accredited tractor/trailer driving school. Experience with hydraulic systems for end dump and roll-off trailer operation. Working knowledge of loading and unloading end dump and roll-off equipment. Ability to read, write, and interpret the English language sufficient to communicate with law enforcement and company personnel, interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to perform simple math calculations, mentally handle receipts, maintain logs, read road maps and instructions. Prior experience in scrap metal or trash recycling industry. Be safety-minded at all times. Qualifications Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A. Must be able to pass a Federal DOT Drug Screen. 2 years of verifiable tractor/trailer experience; or 1 year of tractor/trailer experience with a graduation certificate from an accredited tractor/trailer driving school. Ability to read, write, and interpret the English language sufficient to communicate with law enforcement and company personnel, interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Working knowledge of vehicle safety control systems. Ability to perform simple math calculations, mentally handle receipts, maintain logs, read road maps and instructions. Ability to apply common sense understanding of standards set forth by the US Department of Transportation, knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, and inspection maintenance.
