The animators at Valve are a world‑class group of artists who work with writers, software engineers, and designers to create and release compelling entertainment experiences for players around the world. Responsibilities Animators determine work priorities in collaboration with peers, contributing creative solutions throughout production in a variety of ways. From conceptualizing ideas to producing an extensive range of animated content—including dynamic interactive performances and large‑scale cinematic moments—animators shape ideas and work closely with designers and programmers to prototype gameplay experiences for characters, creatures, and in‑game encounters. They also collaborate with software engineers to improve proprietary tools, maximize workflow efficiency, and ensure exceptional animation quality. Key Skills Product‑level thinking that informs intentional, meaningful decisions from concept to completion. Outstanding ability to portray believable physical movement, strong acting, storytelling and performance of 3D CG characters. Detailed understanding of Maya; experience with motion capture and building animation state machines. Knowledge of rigging, scripting, modeling, texturing, lighting, and video editing. Prior professional experience shipping world‑class products in the software, television or film industry. Collaboration with others to solve hard problems that improve products.
