Contract and Commercial Manager Location: Overland Park, KS, US Company: Black & Veatch Corporation Employment Type: Full Time, Staff Relocation eligible: Yes Visa Sponsorship Available: No Key Responsibilities Identify, track and manage contract changes to minimize potential cost and schedule impacts for complex projects (greater than $50 million) and (sub)contracts as warranted. Provide contract claims support for Construction Management and EPC projects on large multiple/complex claims. Compile contract revisions or change orders for execution. Interface with the field staff to identify back‑chargeable events and quantify the costs. Review documentation of back‑chargeable costs to suppliers and construction Subcontractors. Monitor pursuit of back charges for collection from suppliers and construction Subcontractors. Monitor contract correspondence to ensure timely notification to construction Subcontractors and suppliers of back‑chargeable events or other contractual issues. Maintain appropriate logs, records, and other documentation. Coordinate with the design office as necessary to commercially administrate the prime contract. Review invoices for supply contracts (backcharges, TA time) and subcontracts (RFMP’s, WA’s and Change Orders). Train others within the project team on the change management process. Provide input to policy and procedure review and development process. Provide strategic guidance to internal project management. Assist in developing and implementing corporate claim management processes and procedures. Manage contract claims and risk issues related to prime agreements and/or subcontract agreements. Expedite swift claims resolution with clients and subcontractors. Manage claims with clients. Identify and implement claims processes and procedures on projects through administration of the prime contract. Assist projects during the negotiation stage by providing advice on claims avoidance. Review equipment and subcontractor agreements prior to commitment and provide advice on potential claim issues. Manage project‑specific claims letter templates and provide input to corporate claim letter templates. Conduct necessary research and acquire supporting documentation to substantiate claims to clients or subcontractors. Assess prime agreement risk profile and communicate to the project team at project inception, including notice requirements, statutory requirements, and project‑specific definitions. Develop a project‑specific claims summary report during project closeout to support lessons learned and continuous improvement. Function as a consultant for claims and disputes with subcontractors. Update and report progress on claims electronically in a corporate database. Train, develop and mentor others on their duties and accountabilities. Provide occasional training of other functional roles on claims management. Minimum Qualifications Complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Preferred Qualifications BA or BS degree in Pre‑Law, Supply Chain/Purchasing, Business, Technical/Engineering, Construction Management or related field (experience may be substituted for a degree). Seven (7) years of relevant experience. Proficient in analytics creation and interpretation. Strong attention to detail. Strong written and oral communication. Strong computer skills in database and MS Office. Advanced contract comprehension. Strong data entry. Proficient mathematics. Strong organizing of data. Basic presentation skills. Strong problem solving. Basic project process management. Work Environment Typical home office or field office environment. Typical construction site environment. Domestic or international short or long‑term field assignments/projects may be required.
