The Supervisor, BHT provides operational and staff supervision for a Mental Health Residential Treatment Program. This position is responsible for overseeing program operations and supervising Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) who provide day-to-day residential support to individuals receiving treatment. This role is responsible for ensuring continuity of operations and staff coverage across a 24-hour residential setting, including coordination and oversight across shifts and participation in organizational meetings, trainings, and leadership activities that may occur during daytime hours, regardless of assigned shift. The position requires flexible scheduling, including crossover hours (e.g., 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.), to support effective communication, supervision, and operational consistency across the program. Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) are direct care staff who support individuals in activities of daily living, engagement in treatment and recovery-oriented activities, and maintenance of a safe, structured residential environment. At Sound, BHTs typically hold credentials such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Care Aide (HCA) and function in non-clinical roles. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees the delivery of person-centered, recovery-oriented care within the assisted living program. Coordinates with nursing staff, licensed clinicians, and program leadership to support continuity, safety, and quality of resident care. Directs and supports staff response to behavioral or medical concerns using approved de-escalation, safety, and care protocols, escalating issues as appropriate. Models professional, ethical, and resident-centered care practices consistent with CNA scope of practice and organizational expectations. Reviews shift documentation and reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with program and regulatory standards.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides day-to-day supervision, direction, and support to direct care staff during assigned hours. Serves as the on-site shift lead and primary point of contact for staff during assigned hours. Ensures appropriate staffing coverage, addresses call-outs, and coordinates shift coverage needs in collaboration with leadership. Participates in recruitment and selection processes, including interviewing and recommending candidates for hire, as appropriate. Supports onboarding, training, and ongoing coaching of new and existing staff to ensure competency in assigned duties and adherence to program standards. Participates in an on-call rotation and provides after-hours supervisory support as assigned, responding to urgent staffing, operational, or resident care needs in accordance with program protocols. Provides supervisory coverage within a 24-hour residential program model, ensuring coordination and continuity across all shifts. Works a flexible schedule, including crossover hours (e.g., 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.), to support effective communication, staffing continuity, and operational coverage. Participates in organizational meetings, trainings, and leadership activities that may occur during daytime hours, regardless of assigned shift.KEY WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships across departments, engaging with residents, external healthcare providers, team members, management and leadership in a manner that values diverse perspectives and lived experiences. Qualifications EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Five (5) or more years of CNA experience in long-term care or residential care settings required, including experience in a lead, charge, or supervisory capacity preferred. Experience in a mental health residential treatment setting preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of long-term care and assisted living practices, including person-centered and recovery-oriented care principles. Knowledge of basic behavioral health concepts, including trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques. Understanding of CNA scope of practice, resident rights, and applicable state and federal regulations. Knowledge of safe resident care practices, including mobility assistance, transfers, and activities of daily living (ADLs). Ability to supervise, direct, and support frontline care staff in a residential care environment. Ability to train, coach, and onboard staff to ensure consistent adherence to care standards and organizational expectations. Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide clear direction, document accurately, and communicate effectively with staff, residents, families, and clinical teams. Ability to respond effectively to behavioral, medical, and operational concerns using approved protocols, including de-escalation techniques. Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage shift operations, staffing coverage, and competing demands. Ability to observe resident behavior and condition changes and communicate concerns appropriately to clinical or nursing staff. Ability to work collaboratively with nursing, clinical, and leadership teams to ensure continuity and quality of care. Ability to maintain professionalism, sound judgment, and emotional stability in high-stress or unpredictable situations. Proficiency in basic documentation systems and electronic health records (EHR), including timely and accurate shift reporting. Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced residential care environment.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
Active credential with the Washington State Department of Health as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required. Current First Aid and CPR certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Current Food Handler’s Permit required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Completion of tuberculosis (TB) screening in accordance with state and organizational requirements, including documentation of evaluation, treatment, or clearance as applicable. Completion of all required training in accordance with organizational and Washington State requirements. Valid Washington State driver’s license and insurable driving record required. Successful completion of criminal background check(s) required.SENSORY/PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

Physical: Frequent standing and walking throughout assigned shifts in a residential care environment. Physical assistance with resident care activities, including lifting, transferring, repositioning, and mobility support, typically up to 50 pounds independently and more with assistance or mechanical devices. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and twisting during resident care activities. Performance of repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements during direct care tasks, documentation, and use of equipment. Pushing and pulling of equipment such as wheelchairs, beds, lifts, and carts. Occasional physical intervention in behavioral or emergency situations in accordance with training, policy, and applicable scope of practice. Work performed in environments that may include exposure to bodily fluids, cleaning agents, and varying environmental conditions. Cognitive: Monitoring resident conditions and identifying changes in physical, behavioral, or emotional status requiring intervention or escalation. Prioritizing and coordinating multiple operational demands, staffing needs, and resident care activities within a shift. Exercising judgment and decision-making in routine, urgent, and emergency situations, including behavioral and medical events. Applying knowledge of care standards, CNA scope of practice, resident rights, and applicable regulations to guide daily operations. Interpreting and following care plans, policies, and procedures while adapting to changing resident needs. Supervising, directing, and supporting staff performance in a residential care environment. Communicating effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including nursing, clinical staff, leadership, and external providers. Maintaining situational awareness in environments with frequent interruptions, unpredictable resident behaviors, and competing priorities. Ensuring accurate, timely documentation and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements. Responding to urgent situations and participating in on-call or after-hours supervisory coverage as assigned, with or without reasonable accommodation.SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
This is a full-time supervisory position requiring flexible scheduling to support 24-hour residential operations. Participation in daytime meetings, trainings, and organizational activities is required.
