Newark Community Health Centers, Inc., FQHC, is a multi-cultural, Patient Centered Medical home- Level III that provides primary care services (Family/Adult Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Dental) and social services. The position of Director of Nursing oversees clinical support staff including certified medical technicians, licensed nurses, registered nurses and nutritionists to maintain standards of patient care as well as ensuring the procurement and availability of medical supplies and equipment. The incumbents will have routine access to individually identifiable health information including the patient medical records on a need-to-know basis only. Function as Risk Manager for the organization in collaboration with the Chief Compliance Officer.

Essential duties/responsibilities include the following as well as other duties that may be assigned:

• Recruits, hires, develops, supervises and evaluates the job performance of employees assigned

to the nursing and nutrition departments

• Coordinates staff schedules, approves time off, continuing clinical education and other leaves of absence for the nursing and nutrition departments.
• Oversees quality assurance and risk management activities for nursing.
• Ensures all staff perform at effectives levels of competency.
• Strategically networks with other service providers in the community to meet patients’ needs
• Participates in program development activities, including organization and professional meetings, program planning, proposal writing, preparation of budgets and effective interaction with funding and regulatory agencies.
• Monitors nursing and nutrition departments’ utilization and productivity.
• Serves as the Chair of the Risk Management Committee manage/implement the risk management plan, to develop protocols that ensure patient safety, enhance quality of care, and mitigate risk. Receives and reviews incident and Risk Management reports. Collaborates with clinical leaders, facilities and administrative staff to investigate incidents and prepare action plans to correct any deficiencies when warranted. Prepares and summarizes monthly reports to Risk Management Committee.
• Serves as Chair of the Infection Control Committee.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
• Valid NJ Nursing License as a registered nurse
• Previous experience in the administration of nursing services in an ambulatory care setting including the direct supervision of subordinates. Minimum 3 years in a leadership role
