Registered Nurse

This is a Med/Tele unit specializing in telemetry patients. The unit has a capacity of 23 beds. Nurse-patient ratios are typically 1:4, with occasional 1:5 ratios. There are nurse aids on the unit with a ratio of 1:10. Charge nurse does not usually take a patient assignment during the night shift. A house supervisor is present during night shifts. Nurses are expected to interpret rhythms, though monitor techs read the strips. The unit is equipped with Nasal Cannulas, BiPap, and High Flow NC; however, there are no vents. Self-scheduling is permitted, although shifts may be adjusted for staffing needs. Every other weekend and holiday requirements are expected unless approved for time off. Floating is rare to a similar care setting with the same ratios. Scrub color is navy. Unit-specific orientation includes basic computer skills training. The charting system utilized is MEDITECH.
