AY26 - REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING INSTRUCTOR (1 Position) Application Deadline: August 13, 2026, 4:30 p.m. Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC) is a two-year community college located in the downtown Los Angeles. Position(s) Description Instruct, develop and safely supervise classes in Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR), and related technologies. This position may include evening, weekend, and online instruction. Topics include tools of the trade, equipment, hardware, and installation, workplace habits and safety procedures. Minimum Qualifications Associate degree and six years Journey level HVACR or closely related industry experience; or Bachelor’s degree and two years of Journey level HVACR industry experience; and, Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, cultural background, disability, sexual orientation and identity of community college students, faculty, and staff. Desirable Qualifications Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Ability to demonstrate HVACR operations in a classroom laboratory setting. Community college teaching or technical training experience. Possession of a valid State Contractors License. Possession of valid Journeymen certificate. Experience in green or sustainable construction methods. Possess the personal characteristics necessary for successful teaching of community college students, including judgment, qualities of leadership, emotional stability, and educational perspective. Capacity to plan, lay out, supervise, direct, and evaluate the work of students. Ability to accurately interpret blueprints and apply standards, codes and other applicable references. Ability to perform construction math and other calculations at a minimum level of intermediate algebra and basic geometry. Duties and Responsibilities This position requires a commitment to the college of a minimum of 30 hours per week of engagement including over 21 hours of teaching. Evening and/or weekend and offsite classes may be scheduled based on department needs. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Maintain, review, and submit student enrollment and attendance data in a timely manner following department, college and district guidelines. Establish and convene industry advisories, promote business and community partnerships to enhance program resources and job placement for students. Develop, assess, and revise syllabi, curriculum, Student/Program Learning Outcomes, and annual program review. Retain and motivate students by engaging them in the learning process using a variety of teaching methods, including the use of computers and other technologies to provide high-quality classroom instruction. Assess the need for equipment and educational materials; help formulate and submit appropriate grant applications and/or purchase requests. Remain active and current in industry certifications and licenses. Create lesson plans and course materials. Create instructional and course management materials for related subjects using Canvas and other related software. Deliver day, evening, weekend, and online classes/training both on campus and at various off-campus locations. Demonstrate subject matter from beginning levels to advanced procedures. Participate in extracurricular student activities related to department functions. Engage in participatory governance and attend college/department/pathway meetings and activities. Use spreadsheet, word processing and construction related software. Initial placement $76,960 – $143,000 (10-month assignment). Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and/or part-time teaching history, and related work experience. Opportunities for additional earnings exist with winter and summer assignments. The district provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee.
