NDT Technician - UT Inspector 3rd shift

Job Description UT operator uses part specific work instructions to calibrate UT equipment and measure casting wall thickness. Data point templates are used to mark data locations on the castings, and the data is reviewed by the operator for accept or reject of the castings wall thickness. Acceptable parts are degreased, dried, and moved to the next routed operation. Rejected parts are cleaned and moved to MRB pending. Data recorded is saved in the Windows XL data program for engineering review. The operator calibrates and uses ultrasonic testing equipment to measure casting wall thickness, grades castings against parts specific work instructions for dimensional requirements, records data for engineering, and separates non-conforming product and moves good product to the next routed operation. The operator performs ultrasonic inspections of metal stainless steel, nickel‑based alloy, and cobalt‑based alloy investment castings for wall thickness measurements. This position will also train in other NDT techniques once fully trained in UT and when business dictates need. Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Perform UT equipment calibrations, marking product with data point locations, operate foot pedal to store data in software program, review data for out of tolerance readings, and clean product when test is completed. Complete 24 hours of classroom training and 275 hours of work experience/on‑the‑job training. Pass a general exam, specific exam, and practical exam for certification. Read and interpret documents written in English, such as safety rules, general standard procedures, and part specific work instructions. Perform job duties that require sitting, standing, walking, using hands and arms, talking or hearing. Occasionally stoop, kneel, and crouch. Regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision with at least Snellen 20/25 in one eye corrected or non‑corrected. Qualifications Perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally required to talk or hear. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Requires wearing eye protection (safety glasses), foot protection (steel toes), and hearing protection (ear buds). Occasionally exposed to fumes. Minimal potential for exposure to radiation is possible but unlikely. Noise level is usually quiet.
