Development Manager

Opportunity and Charge The Development Manager will work full‑time and report directly to the Senior Manager of Development. The role includes developing and managing fundraising systems and tools, partnering on donor cultivation and stewardship, and crafting compelling grant proposals and reports across all fundraising streams. Responsibilities Development Strategy and Pipeline Development Champion a culture of philanthropy across the organization. Monitor assigned portfolios and support the execution of actions to reach annual fundraising goals. Research new prospects and strategize outreach and relationship building with teams. Support local grassroots giving programs and Leadership Council giving. Development Operations, Systems, and Management Manage a calendar of grant proposal and reporting deadlines; build tools and systems for timely submissions. Lead metrics tracking, keeping Salesforce and related tools up to date. Own donor acknowledgment processes and develop streamlined systems. Maintain Salesforce data integrity and coordinate with finance to align workstreams. Donor Communications Draft grant proposals and reports for current and prospective donors. Strategize with frontline fundraisers on outreach to key funders and prospects. Partner with leadership to craft state‑level, multi‑site proposals and reports. Assist in building and executing a development outreach calendar. Create funder‑facing collateral. External Communications Support state‑level communications staff with content for the Annual Report and quarterly funder updates. Coordinate with state and local communications teams to keep the GO website current. Identify opportunities for new funder‑facing content in collaboration with CA and local teams. Candidate Profile Necessary Characteristics Bachelor’s degree. 1–3 years of relevant fundraising experience. Experience in a development‑focused role with grant writing and/or donor communications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in a fast‑paced team environment. Success working on a remote team. Ability to manage relationships across the organization. Data‑driven decision making for fundraising strategy. Proficiency with Excel and G‑suite. Experience with a donor‑focused CRM; Salesforce preferred. Knowledge or experience in K‑12 education; passion for improving student outcomes. Experience in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programming. Self‑starter and resourceful problem solver with strong project management and organizational skills. Desirable Characteristics Fluent in English and Spanish. Energetic networking and relationship building. Experience in an education advocacy organization. Experience in education (classroom, administration, or nonprofit). Location, Compensation, and Benefits Employees must reside in California, preferably in the Sacramento area or Central Valley (Fresno). Regular travel to Sacramento and local cities is required. The position is exempt with an annual salary ranging from $67,900 to $78,900, depending on experience and location. GO uses an equity‑based compensation structure that adjusts for cost of labor.
