Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a PACU position requiring 2 years of PACU experience and current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.

Details

• Work in the PACU/Pre-op/Phase II unit of an acute care hospital
• Unit includes 20 pre-op bays and 24 PACU/Phase II bays
• Staff rotate throughout Pre-op, PACU, Phase II, and boarders
• Patient population includes adult and pediatric cases across general surgery, plastics, dental/ENT/maxillofacial, urology, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedics/ortho trauma, joint replacements, OB/GYN, thoracic, regional acute pain/blocks/epidurals, and bariatrics
• Nurse:patient ratios are 1:3 in pre-op, 1:2 in PACU, and 1:3 in Phase II
• ICU patients may recover in PACU depending on bed availability and unit capacity
• PCA support includes approximately 5 in pre-op, 2 in PACU, and 2 in Phase II
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Rotating schedule primarily M-F dayshift, with potential rotation to weekends and nights
• Shift options include 3x12s, 4x9s, 4x10s, or 5x8s depending on FTE status
• Pre-op shifts start at 0530; PACU shifts start between 0730-1000
• Call requirements average 20-24 hours per month on weeknights and around 20 hours per month on weekends, self-selected based on availability
• Call response time is 1 hour
• May float to other Pre/Post departments within the hospital
• May be required to work one holiday shift and one holiday call shift per season (Summer/Winter)

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Prior PACU experience required; Level 1 trauma PACU experience preferred
• Experience with RT equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPap, etc) required
• Experience caring for ICU patients recovering in PACU required
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• Rotate through Pre-op, PACU, and Phase II care areas as needed
• Provide recovery care for post-surgical adult and pediatric patients
• Charge nurses typically do not take patient assignments but may when necessary
• Unit/department specific orientation includes 1 day each in Pre-op, PACU, and Phase II
• Hospital scrubs required per dress code
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to be eligible for the travel position
• Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff must have a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers who previously worked at this facility for a full year must have a 2-year break before reapplying
• Candidates may only be submitted to one position within the health system at a time
