Job Description

Join a growing metal fabrication team that designs and builds custom dust collection and ventilation systems for heavy manufacturing environments. In this role, you will perform MIG welding and thin-gauge sheet metal fabrication on custom parts and ductwork, working from blueprints to produce high-quality, one-of-a-kind products. This is a hands-on position in a job shop environment with strong potential to transition to a permanent role for the right person.

Standard schedule is Monday through Friday starting at 5:00 a.m., with current shifts running approximately 11–12 hours and frequent overtime extending the day to around 4:30–5:30 p.m.

Pay: $20-$25/hr

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on custom parts, primarily using thin-gauge sheet metal (approximately 16 to 14 gauge) for dust collection and ventilation systems.
• Weld and fabricate components using carbon steel, and potentially stainless steel, while maintaining strong weld quality on light-gauge materials.
• Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to perform accurate layout, tacking, and welding of seams.
• Measure and mark materials accurately using a tape measure to ensure precise cuts, layouts, and fits.
• Assist fabricators and support the broader production process as needed to keep projects moving efficiently.
• Operate and maintain sheet metal fabrication equipment such as shears, press brakes, grinders, rollers, saws, drills, and plasma cutters.
• Set up and operate press equipment and other metalworking tools safely and effectively.
• Adapt to changing project requirements in a job shop environment, producing a variety of one-off and custom products.
• Cross-train in related fabrication tasks and step into different roles as needed to support the team.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in a busy metal shop environment.
• Work full shifts and overtime as required to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.

Essential Skills

• Solid MIG welding experience in a custom fabrication environment, with at least 2 or more years of hands-on welding preferred.
• Proven ability to weld thin-gauge sheet metal, particularly 16 to 14 gauge materials.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings for layout and welding tasks.
• Strong tape measure skills and the ability to perform accurate measurements and layouts.
• Experience with thin-gauge metal fabricating, including ductwork and related sheet metal products.
• Comfort working with carbon steel and, when needed, stainless steel materials.
• Ability to operate common metal fabrication tools such as press brakes, shears, grinders, rollers, saws, drills, and plasma cutters.
• Willingness and ability to work 11–12 hour shifts on a Monday through Friday schedule starting at 5:00 a.m.
• Reliable, safety-conscious work habits in a welding and fabrication shop environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Open to candidates with limited professional experience who have 1–2 years of weld training and a strong desire to grow.
• No formal welding certifications required, but any welding coursework or training is beneficial.
• Background in a job shop environment where products are frequently custom or one-off is a plus.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and different product requirements.
• Strong teamwork mindset and willingness to help wherever needed in the shop.
• Motivated, self-directed approach with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.

Work Environment

This role is based in a metal fabrication shop that focuses on custom dust collection and ventilation systems. You will work around active welding and fabrication processes, with typical noise, heat, and odors associated with metalworking. You will regularly use welding equipment, sheet metal tools, press brakes, shears, grinders, rollers, saws, drills, and plasma cutters. The environment is fast-paced, team-oriented, and highly collaborative, with an expectation that everyone cross-trains and helps out wherever needed to meet production goals.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Denver, PA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
