Founded in 2017, we're delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.Position SummaryThe Payroll Specialist supports the payroll function by analyzing payroll data, ensuring tax and regulatory compliance, and improving payroll processes and controls. This position will act as a key partner to Payroll, HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and efficiency through analysis, auditing, and continuous improvement.ResponsibilitiesSupport payroll processing activities by reviewing payroll inputs, outputs, and controlsAnalyze payroll data to identify trends, variances, and cost driversPrepare and maintain recurring and ad hoc payroll reports for Finance and HRSupport monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll reporting and close activitiesEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulationsReview tax filings, payments, and reconciliations prepared by vendors or internal teamsAssist with multi-state payroll compliance and jurisdiction setupSupport internal and external payroll audits and respond to audit requestsIdentify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and system efficienciesDocument payroll procedures, workflows, and internal controlsSupport payroll system implementations, upgrades, and testingDrive automation and standardization initiatives to reduce errors and manual workPartner with HR, Finance, Accounting, and IT to ensure accurate data flowQualificationsAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred3–5 years of payroll experience, preferably in a mid-sized or large organizationStrong knowledge of payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, and compliance requirementsExperience reconciling payroll to the general ledger preferredAdvanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, Paychex, UKG, Ceridian), preferably WorkdayFamiliarity with HRIS and accounting software integrations preferredStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsHigh attention to detail and accuracyEffective communication and cross-functional collaborationContinuous improvement mindsetThe position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
