Dental Assistant The Veterans Health Administration is seeking one intermittent Dental Assistant for the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System in Muskogee, OK, on a one-year temporary appointment. The Dental Assistant helps care for Veterans by supporting restorative, surgical, endodontic, periodontal, prosthodontic, and implant-related dental procedures; capturing diagnostic dental images; maintaining dental equipment; performing dental laboratory tasks; entering and retrieving electronic dental record data; and providing dental assistant coverage at Community Based Outpatient Clinics as needed. Recognize instruments, materials, and standardized dental procedures used in restorative, surgical, endodontic, and periodontal care. Monitor and perform basic interpretation of vital signs. Provide procedure-specific patient education and refer patient concerns to the treating dentist as appropriate. Capture standard and special dental images of diagnostic quality in traditional or digital formats. Perform maintenance on dental equipment used for routine and specialty dentistry. Enter and retrieve data using electronic dental records. Perform dental assistant-appropriate laboratory procedures. Use four-handed dentistry concepts when assisting dentists and specialists. Assist with specialty procedures, including oral surgery, periodontal therapy, endodontic procedures, prosthodontic procedures, and implant placement and restoration. Anticipate dentists, surgeons, and specialists needs at each stage of treatment. Take preliminary impressions. Select and manipulate gypsums and waxes. Pour, trim, and evaluate diagnostic casts. Fabricate custom trays. Provide dental assistant coverage at Community Based Outpatient Clinics as needed. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Must have six months of experience demonstrating the ability to perform the work or familiarity with the work; or Must have successfully completed a one-year dental assistant program accredited by the American Dental Associations Commission on Dental Accreditation; or Must have an equivalent combination of experience and education. Must meet radiologic procedure credentialing standards if administering radiologic procedures. Must be subject to background/security investigation. Must pass pre-employment drug testing and remain subject to testing requirements for this testing designated position. Radiologic Certification Requirements: Applicants who administer radiologic procedures must meet credentialing standards under 42 CFR Part 75.
