Essential Responsibilities - specific to this job Works within the beliefs, philosophy, and mission statements that have been approved and align with the school, school district and state mission. Plans, organizes and delivers a comprehensive school counseling program based upon the developmental and individual needs of students and in collaboration with building level administrators. Develops a written plan for effective delivery of services based on state and local standards, current school data and individual student's needs. Advocates for the elimination of barriers to access and assure a rigorous education for all students. Maintains current communication and appropriate resources for stakeholders. Applies legal and ethical standards of the role of the school counselor. Delivers counseling services through classroom instruction, interdisciplinary curriculum, group activities, individual or small group appraisal and advisement, consultation, individual and small group counseling, crisis counseling/response and peer facilitation. Collaborates with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational specialists to develop academic, career and personal/social skills for all students. Applies professional training to collect, analyze and interpret and use relevant data to guide students’ academic, social and career achievement. Develops an effective referral and follow up process with in-house support and outside agencies. Provides leadership, intervention and support when crisis counseling is appropriate. Manages the school counseling program through the effective use of calendars, action plans, and management agreements. Devotes no less than 60% of their time providing direct services to students with the remaining time devoted to program management, system support and accountability. Collaborates with parents, teachers and administrators to ensure the effective implementation of the school counseling program and reflection of the school’s goals. Implements data-driven action plans that align with school and comprehensive counseling program goals, impact the issues of closing the gap and allow effective monitoring of student’s progress. Utilizes data to perform yearly program audit to evaluate the schools counseling program’s effectiveness. Collects and use data to direct the program needs and direction. Provides regular result reports to administrators, teachers and appropriate shareholders. Monitors impact issues such as academic achievement, discipline referrals, attendance and assist with and support appropriate interventions. Completes other duties as assigned that align with the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) recommendations.
