Job Opportunity: Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist

The Hematology/Oncology Division at our organization is looking for full-time, board eligible or board certified pediatric hematologist/oncologists. We welcome candidates with interests in areas such as benign hematology, immune deficiencies, white blood cell disorders, or bone marrow failure syndromes. Experience in research and program development is highly valued as we aim to enhance our offerings in these fields.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver clinical care, engage in teaching, and participate in clinical research.
  • Actively collaborate as a member of the Hematology/Oncology/BMT Division within the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
  • Manage both inpatient and outpatient hematology patients.
About Our Center

Our Center serves as the primary referral facility in the Southwestern region, handling approximately 1,500 new hematology cases annually. We have a substantial patient base, including:

  • Nearly 550 patients with congenital bleeding disorders at our federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center.
  • Over 325 patients with sickle cell disease or thalassemia.
  • Close to 150 new thrombosis patients each year.

We operate multidisciplinary clinics focusing on hemophilia, congenital bleeding disorders, immunohematology, neurovascular diseases, sickle cell/thalassemia, and other patients requiring chronic transfusions, including those with bone marrow failure and red blood cell enzyme deficiencies. Our dedicated hematology team is committed to providing top-tier care to the Southwest community. We also have active clinical and laboratory research initiatives, along with multiple ongoing clinical trials. We are eager to find someone who is enthusiastic about expanding and developing our programs.

Qualifications
  • Must be board eligible or board certified in pediatric hematology-oncology.
  • Demonstrated interest in hematology is essential.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teams on patient-centered, division-focused, and hospital-wide initiatives.
Position DutiesPatient Care Services
  • Provide clinical services for which you are privileged, including:
    • Direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
    • Subspecialty consultations and follow-up care.
    • Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
    • Urgent and emergent care as required.
  • Aim for optimal patient and family-centered care.
  • Support hospital patient satisfaction goals and division-specific targets.
  • Adhere to divisional standards for patient safety and quality of care.
  • Practice contemporary evidence-based medicine.
Divisional Responsibilities
  • Set and strive to meet annual goals and objectives for yourself and the division.
  • Contribute to the medical education programs, including:
    • Supervising trainees and allied health professionals in service delivery.
    • Conducting teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences.
    • Participating in the education of trainees and allied health professionals.
    • Engaging in postgraduate continuing education activities.
  • Support the division's research initiatives and programmatic growth.
  • Assist with satellite efforts of the division when appropriate.

  • Foster a safe, collaborative, and professional healthcare environment.

Additional Activities
  • Assist the Division Chief in liaising with the professional community and public as needed.
  • Conduct teaching rounds or conferences outside the organization to support divisional initiatives.
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner within medical and business communities.
  • Essential skills include:
    • Effective communication via phone, computer, or other devices.
    • Ability to fulfill after-hours or night call responsibilities as necessary.
    • Consistent attendance during scheduled work hours.

Other miscellaneous duties may be assigned as required.
