This role focuses on shipping, receiving, and record center operations in a warehouse environment where you will manually move, arrange, lift, and load storage boxes, bins, and totes. You will handle both inbound and outbound freight, use a proprietary computer system and handheld scanners to track orders, and ensure accurate processing of documents and materials stored on-site. The position is highly physical and involves frequent kneeling, squatting, bending, and lifting heavy items while maintaining strong attention to detail and meeting productivity targets.

Responsibilities

• Move, arrange, lift, and load storage boxes, bins, and totes ranging in weight from approximately 10–40 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs without assistance for prolonged periods.
• Walk, stand, kneel, squat, stoop, crawl, and bend for extended periods of time throughout the shift to complete daily tasks.
• Work independently without assistance to grip, lift, push, pull, and carry boxes up and down inclines, stairs, and over changes in walking surfaces or elevation.
• Lift and move boxes manually and via hand carts, pallet jacks, and other material handling aids to support inbound and outbound freight activities.
• Load and shrink-wrap pallets at ground level or on carts, ensuring pallets are stable and secure for transport.
• Load boxes onto pallets and load pallets onto trucks manually and with material handling equipment to support shipping and receiving operations.
• Use a proprietary computer system to track orders, update records, and determine the exact location of boxes and other stored materials.
• Operate a handheld scanner to process incoming and outgoing orders, verify labels, and maintain accurate inventory records.
• Read and interpret labels, documentation, and order details in English to ensure correct picking, packing, and shipping of materials.
• Perform order selection and picking tasks, meeting pick counts and productivity targets while maintaining accuracy.
• Package and pack materials securely for shipment, ensuring items are properly labeled and documented.
• Handle inbound freight by receiving, checking, and storing boxes and other materials in designated warehouse locations.
• Manage outbound freight by preparing, staging, and loading orders for shipment according to established procedures.
• Safely climb and maintain balance on ladders when required to access boxes stored at various heights.
• Use RF scanners and data entry tools to maintain accurate records of inventory movements and order status.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.

• Ability to frequently walk, stand, kneel, squat, stoop, crawl, and bend for extended periods in a warehouse environment.
• Capability to lift and carry boxes ranging from approximately 10–40 lbs on a regular basis and up to 100 lbs without assistance for prolonged periods.
• Experience working in a warehouse environment processing orders and moving boxes of files, books, binders, backup tapes, and other materials.
• Ability to load and safely operate hand trucks, hand carts, and pallet jacks for transporting materials.
• Proficiency using a proprietary computer system to track orders and determine the location of boxes and stored items.
• Ability to operate a handheld scanner and RF scanner to process and track inbound and outbound orders.
• Strong attention to detail to accurately read labels, process orders, and meet pick counts and productivity standards.
• Ability to perform shipping and receiving tasks, including handling inbound and outbound freight.
• Basic data entry skills to update records and maintain accurate inventory information.
• Ability to read and write in English to interpret labels, instructions, and order documentation.
• Comfort working in a physical role that involves standing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, and lifting throughout the shift.

• Experience in shipping and receiving, packaging, and order selection in a warehouse or distribution environment.
• Familiarity with picking, packing, and meeting daily pick counts or productivity goals.
• Experience using material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and various material handling aids.
• Comfort working with inbound and outbound freight, including loading and unloading trucks.
• Ability to work safely around stored documents and sensitive information, maintaining confidentiality and care.
• Willingness to work in environments where boxes may be dusty or have been stored for many years.
• Reliability in following established procedures for tracking, handling, and storing materials.

Work Environment

The role is based in a warehouse environment that stores files and documents for a wide range of organizations, including materials that may contain sensitive information. Many boxes have been stored for 10–15 years or longer, so some items may be dirty or dusty, and employees should be comfortable working around older stored materials. The warehouse can become warm in the summer, but air is circulated to improve comfort. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, providing a consistent workweek, and includes two paid 15-minute breaks and one unpaid 30-minute lunch break each day. The position requires regular use of hand carts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, RF scanners, handheld scanners, and a proprietary computer system. Safety protection, personal protective equipment, and appropriate footwear are provided or supported, contributing to a safety-focused work environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
