Public Health Representative 2

Disease Intervention SpecialistThis contractor would work alongside existing STI staff as a Disease Intervention Specialist or DIS (Public Health Representative 2). As a DIS they will ensure interview, partner services, testing and re-testing of persons diagnosed with STIs in TN, particularly among priority populations such as women of reproductive age and men who have sex with men. Must have experience working with diverse populations, strong active listening skills, comfort with field work and discussing sexual health, and strong oral communication skills. STI rates have increased year over year for the last five years in TN, including particularly concerning increases in gonorrhea (74%), syphilis (62%), and congenital syphilis (>300%). These increases in STI illnesses have increased the need for staff to conduct quality STI investigation and partner services in our regional and local health departments. This position is requested to assist with statewide STI investigations and will include deployment to local health departments throughout the state to assist with partner services. Partner services involves gaining the trust of patients to share intimate details of their lives and then motivating them to get tested and/or treated for their infections. We are recruiting 5 positions and geographic preferences will be taken into consideration (generally West, Middle, and East TN). This contractor would be expected to complete the minimum trainings required of a DIS 1 within their first 6 months of employment, including a minimum of 2 weeks training at the Central Office in Nashville prior to deployment. Candidates who are successful in this position may have backgrounds in social work, nursing, or other public health fields. Spanish language skills are a plus. If the candidate has a nursing degree, they will have a role in performing phlebotomy services.
