Job Goal: Provide comprehensive custodial, maintenance, repair, and operational support for school facilities and grounds to maintain a safe, clean, functional, and efficient learning environment. This position requires the ability to work independently. The employee must possess a valid Alabama driver's license and maintain a driving record acceptable to the district insurer.

Length of Contract: 240 Days, 8 hours per day

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Clean and maintain school buildings and grounds as assigned.
2. Share responsibility for the operating conditions and appearance of district facilities, including Central Office and Special Education building.
3. Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, installation, and repair of buildings and equipment.
4. Operate, maintain, and properly store cleaning machines, maintenance tools, and grounds equipment.
5. Perform routine custodial duties, including cleaning, disinfecting, trash removal, and sanitation.
6. Perform minor and general repairs involving plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, flooring, locks, and fixtures.
7. Pick up and Deliver materials and supplies to individual schools, special education buildings, bus shop, and central office.
8. Report hazardous conditions and major maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor.
9. Complete maintenance requests and work orders as assigned.
10. Install or repair ceiling tiles, floor coverings, windows, cabinets, air filters, and related components.
11. Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces as needed.
12. Perform routine grounds care and operate grounds care equipment as needed.
13. Perform servicing and safety checks on custodial and grounds equipment.
14. Recommend materials, tools, and supplies and maintain inventory.
15. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
16. Assist with unloading materials and supplies at the central office when large orders are delivered.
17. Prepare schedules, records, maintenance logs, and reports as required.
18. Maintain custodial supplies inventory for the district.
19. Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
20. Participate in in-service and safety training as assigned.
21. Maintain high ethical and professional standards expected of all personnel.
22. Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Operations or Superintendent that are not in conflict with Board policy.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED. Working knowledge of cleaning methods, maintenance practices, tools, materials, and equipment associated with school facilities is required. Experience with general building maintenance and grounds care is preferred.

Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and understand routine instructions.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule, schematic, or blueprint form.

Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to use hands and arms to handle tools and controls; stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and balance. The employee may work from ladders, roofs, and scaffolding and around moving parts and power tools. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The employee may be exposed to cleaning chemicals, moving mechanical parts, outside weather, wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, heat, cold, elevated work areas, and risk of electric shock. The noise level may range from moderate to loud. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Evaluation: Evaluation is conducted by the Director of Operations and/or Designee.

Salary: According to the approved salary schedule.
