Admissions Coordinator

Job Description Coordinates and plans the daily operation for all pre-admission activities. Coordinates admission with other departments by collecting and distributing the appropriate information. Identifies information needed from the referring hospital to finalize the admission. To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation. Coordinates the patient admission functions in keeping with the mission and vision of the hospital. Completes insurance verification and patient authorizations. Collaborates with the Clinical Liaisons and Program Secretary. Develops the necessary admission and patient day forecast for the institution in conjunction with the healthcare team. Develops appropriate analysis, using established reporting mechanisms and provides data and statistics as required, within the established time frames. Works with department managers in the establishment of services and programs in keeping with institutional objectives and the ongoing evaluations of program effectiveness Maintains a close working relationship with medical staff, interdisciplinary health team, and with external professional group and agencies. Explains the pre-admission and admission policy to families and referral sources as necessary. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Degree in clinical area leading to licensure preferred. Healthcare professional licensure preferred; that is, as Registered Nurse, LPN, Respiratory Therapist, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or Social Worker. Ability to collect, organize, evaluate and communicate pertinent clinical information with effective verbal and written skills. Strong customer service skills and commitment to service excellence. Computer skills that includes Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook and PowerPoint. Must have good and regular attendance. Approximate percent of time required to travel: 10% Performs other related duties as assigned. Works in well-lit, ventilated and climate-controlled office environment with routine office equipment; some equipment has moving mechanical parts. In hospital environment, may be exposed to hazards and unusual elements, which may include but are not limited to bloodborne pathogens and/or contagious illnesses, toxic chemicals, and biohazardous materials which may require extensive safety precautions and the use of protective equipment. Noise level in the work environment is typical for an office and/or hospital environment.
