Classified - Position - Security Officer Job Number 3700268051 Start Date Open Date 03/12/2026 Closing Date 07/17/2026 General Responsibilities Under the leadership and direction of the school building administrator and the guidance of the Office of Security and Emergency Management, the Security Officer is responsible for maintaining order and discipline, preventing crime on school property, school buses, and at school-sponsored events. This position ensures the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in the assigned school. The officer investigates violations of school policies and detains students who violate the law or school board policies. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities General knowledge of the practices, procedures, and strategies regarding the protection of buildings and grounds to provide effective security operations. Ability to recognize and identify activities or situations that may become a problem or emergency. Ability to think and respond quickly, effectively, and responsibly during emergencies. Ability to comprehend and explain information clearly and concisely; interact and respond effectively to students, staff, and community members; and prepare and maintain accurate reports. Effective oral and written communication in both formats. Skilled in the use and operation of closed-circuit television system, security software programs, and other emergency/security equipment. Clear understanding of 'last resort' imminent threat circumstances that necessitate the use of a firearm. Education and Experience Required: High School Diploma or GED, and previous experience as a law enforcement officer. Preferred: Experience working with children. Compensation Compensation will be based on job-related credible years of full-time, verified work experience. The entry-level rate will be awarded at the time of hire. Upon return of employment verification forms from the candidate's current and previous employers, the rate will be adjusted if credible full-time experience is confirmed.
