Bachelor’s risk & safety programs, including claims administration, incident review, and regulatory compliance across Mt. Bachelor LLC and its Oregon-based operations, including Mt. Bachelor, Sun Country Tours, and Trailhead Lodge. This role serves as a practical risk and safety resource and partner to identify exposures, improve documentation, support proactive and corrective action, and develop and maintain programs that reduce risk while supporting safe, compliant, and people-focused operations. Key areas of focus include workers’ compensation, contract and legal documentation, insurance administration, safety training and initiatives, accident investigation, safety committee compliance, and internal risk consulting. Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities Administer workers’ compensation claims, including intake, claim documentation, employee and manager communication, adjuster coordination, return-to-work support, and follow-through on claim-related needs. Serve as a primary point of contact for employees, managers, adjusters, clinics, brokers, insurance carriers, and internal stakeholders involved in workers’ compensation, general liability, vehicle, property, and other claims. Maintain accurate claim files across various insurance carriers, incident documentation, correspondence, reports, and related records to support claim administration, compliance, renewals, and organizational decision-making. Support administration of commercial insurance programs, including vehicle, property, liability, certificates of insurance, renewals, audits, claim reviews, and documentation requests in partnership with POWDR, brokers, carriers, and internal teams. Will own certain areas and support others. Assist in the investigation or review of workplace accidents, guest incidents, property damage, vehicle incidents, and other safety-related events by gathering documentation, reviewing facts, assisting with interviews as needed, and working with involved parties to resolve follow-up needs. Serve as primary contact between all involved parties in incidents, to include but not limited to insurance representatives, legal and outside counsel, senior management, guests, internal stakeholders, and brokers. Determine, recommend, and follow through on corrective and/or supportive actions related to incidents, investigations, inspections, trends, and identified safety concerns. Support operational response with escalated or disgruntled guest situations involving safety, accidents, claims, accommodations, documentation, or potential liability exposure. Develop, update, and communicate safety policies, procedures, job hazard analyses, training materials, inspection tools, and related resources for new hires, annual training, management training, and department-specific initiatives. Review incident, injury, claim, and inspection trends; identify areas of exposure; and develop practical safety initiatives, campaigns, communications, and training to reduce risk and improve safety performance. Lead and support Safety Committee activities, including agenda planning, safety content, training materials, meeting documentation, follow-up items, and communication of key safety priorities. Monitor and support compliance with OSHA requirements, OSHA 300 recordkeeping, environmental reporting, hazard communication, SDS requirements, ADA considerations, Oregon ski statute requirements, and other applicable laws, regulations, and internal standards. Provide manager support on department-level safety initiatives, including reviewing risks, identifying documentation needs, strengthening procedures, and helping leaders address operational concerns. Work in tandem with resort leadership to continually review safety training materials and training documentation. Provide guidance and track safety records, including inspections, department safety meetings, job hazard analyses, corrective actions, and safety-related follow-up to support accountability and continuous improvement. Review and give feedback on contracts, forms, waivers, communications, procedures, and operational language from a risk, insurance, documentation, compliance, and practical implementation perspective. Track and retain contracts in an organized, easily identifiable manner. Sign or provide direction for signature to relevant parties on new or renewing contracts in compliance with internal procedures. Act as a liaison for Risk & Safety-related needs with Powdr’s legal team and resort leadership. Provide internal risk assessment in collaboration with local leaders and teams by helping answer questions such as whether an activity is safe, what exposure exists, whether language is compliant or appropriate, what documentation is needed, and how an incident should be investigated. Prepare reports, summaries, recommendations, and communications related to claims, safety trends, investigations, compliance, corrective actions, and risk mitigation for leadership and operational stakeholders. Develop trusted partnerships with managers and leaders by providing practical guidance, responsive support, training, and recommendations that align with and strengthen safety objectives with operational needs. Maintain a visible presence across resort operations, including field observations, department meetings and/or training, participating in operational activities, assisting in incidents and/or follow-up, and building an understanding of operational risks through all business operations. Maintain working relationships with ski industry, safety, insurance, medical, regulatory, and risk management partners to stay informed of emerging trends, best practices, and operational needs. As a member of the HR team, contribute to department initiatives and provide cross-functional support to HR and other departments as business needs arise, helping advance organizational priorities and operational success. Act with high integrity in all duties, including management of confidential information. Works well, responds professionally and promptly, and maintains strict organization in a fast-paced, potentially high-pressure environment. Serve as a key resource and leader during incidents, emergencies, and escalated risk situations, maintaining the flexibility necessary to support a year-round, 24/7 operation. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not directly supervise employees; however, it partners closely with leaders, managers, supervisors, employees, and safety committee members to influence safety performance, claims follow-through, documentation practices, and risk mitigation across the organization. This position supports safety-related processes and provides training, tools, and guidance to departments on policies, procedures, incident reporting, inspections, corrective actions, and documentation expectations. Interpersonal Contacts Frequent interactions with resort leaders, managers, supervisors, employees, adjusters, brokers, insurance carriers, medical providers, regulatory agencies, guests, and other partners involved in claims, safety, compliance, incident response, and risk management. Specific Job Skills: License/Certifications: Driver’s License. Risk Management Certification (CRM, CRMP) or other relevant certification preferred. Technical: Advanced base of computer operation skills with the foundation to learn new programs. In-depth understanding of Microsoft Office, with advanced use of Excel. Physical Capabilities: This position requires a combination of office and field work, including frequent walking, standing, bending, climbing, and navigating operational environments across all locations. The role regularly requires outdoor work in varying and/or extreme weather conditions. Must be willing and able to physically visit all operational locations. Current intermediate skills or ability to become intermediate in alpine downhill, Nordic, and mountain biking activities. Additional: Ski area experience, customer service skills. Strong written and oral communication and public speaking skills are paramount, and the ability to present in front of large groups with grace, impact, and influence. Education/Related Experience Bachelor’s degree in a related field strongly preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Previous experience in the ski or resort industry, risk management, and/or in the insurance industry. Experience conducting workplace incident investigations or reviews, reviewing documentation, identifying trends or causes, and suggesting, implementing, or managing corrective actions. Experience supporting safety or risk programs in a multi-department environment. Experience administering workers’ compensation or other insurance programs, or experience coordinating information with multiple parties, balancing priorities and confidentiality. Thorough working knowledge of various computer programs such as Word and Excel, and the ability to learn and retain new computer programs quickly. Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships, exercise sound judgment, manage sensitive situations, and learn complex regulatory, insurance, or safety-related subject matter. Experience supporting operations in a dynamic, multi-department environment with safety, compliance, insurance, or incident response responsibilities preferred.
