Lead Mechanical Engineer (Mission Critical/Data Centers)

Job Overview Lead Mechanical Engineer – New York, NY: Design complex cooling and HVAC systems for mission‑critical facilities, lead a team of mechanical engineers, and manage project deliverables. Responsibilities Produce high‑quality technical and professional deliverables for projects and proposals Design complex air‑distribution and hydronic systems (chilled water, heating water, etc.) Develop building automation control systems and specifications for large air distribution and heat rejection systems Prepare drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors, and building owners within multi‑disciplinary project teams Attend client meetings and lead discussions Communicate complex mechanical engineering concepts and decisions to clients and stakeholders Integrate mechanical engineering requirements into facility designs Coordinate with internal discipline team members and external equipment vendors and manufacturers Serve as the lead mechanical engineer on projects and direct the project team Lead and mentor a team of engineers Perform project‑management activities including proposal writing, establishing budgets, and managing client interactions Coordinate technical development, scheduling, and resolution of engineering design issues Survey and evaluate existing conditions Provide construction administration support Required Qualifications Proven history as a Mechanical Engineer with emphasis on mechanical building systems 7+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for high‑performance, commercial, industrial, or mission‑critical/data‑center buildings Experience mentoring and training others in the field Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to collaborate and contribute to high‑quality technical and professional deliverables Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems and applicable codes Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and anti‑harassment policies Flexibility to accommodate varied schedules and priorities in a dynamic environment Occasional travel to client sites may be required Preferred Qualifications Registered Professional Engineer (PE) Experience with the analysis of interior and exterior computational fluid dynamics of airflow Mission‑critical/Data‑Center experience Experience with international projects and knowledge of international codes and standards Benefits Medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage Retirement savings plan Paid sick leave, vacation, and parental leave Paid time off for bereavement, voting, and naturalization proceedings Equal Opportunity & Eligibility WSP USA is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
