Job Summary

The Director of Investments will work collaboratively with members of the investment team to continue building the organization’s in-house investment capabilities for its long-term endowment assets. This position will be involved in all aspects of endowment management, including asset allocation implementation, investment manager due diligence and selection, portfolio monitoring and reporting, and special projects.

The Director will play a key role in evaluating external investment managers, developing investment recommendations, and contributing to portfolio performance monitoring and reporting for internal stakeholders.

The position will also support the organization’s approach to Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI) in accordance with its approved investment framework. The Director will help identify and monitor investment managers that meet the portfolio’s financial objectives while demonstrating meaningful alignment with the organization’s Christian mission and values.

The Director will be expected to travel periodically to conduct onsite investment manager due diligence, attend industry conferences and meetings, and develop relationships across the institutional investment community.

This is an onsite position based in Virginia.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The Director of Investments will support the management and oversight of the organization’s endowment portfolio. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Monitor private markets and remain current on industry trends, market developments, and emerging investment opportunities.
2. Support portfolio construction and investment activity, including conducting market mapping across relevant strategies and sectors and performing comprehensive investment due diligence.
3. Evaluate prospective investment managers based on investment strategy, process, team, organization, competitive positioning, track record, risk considerations, and other relevant qualitative and quantitative factors.
4. Prepare due diligence reports and Investment Committee memoranda supporting investment recommendations, with the ability to clearly articulate the rationale for recommending or declining an investment opportunity.
5. Serve as the primary relationship lead for assigned general partners and external investment managers. Responsibilities will include reviewing quarterly letters and manager correspondence, participating in manager meetings and annual general meetings, responding to information requests, and maintaining appropriate monitoring documentation.
6. Support asset-class and portfolio reviews by developing relevant performance, exposure, risk, and portfolio analytics.
7. Collaborate closely with senior and junior members of the investment team in support of broader portfolio and organizational objectives.
8. Contribute to projects designed to enhance the investment process, portfolio monitoring, reporting, and investment operations, including the evaluation and implementation of data aggregation, portfolio analytics, and risk-management tools.
9. Provide investment-related context and perspective in connection with Limited Partnership Agreement reviews, operational due diligence, and related investment processes.
10. Develop and maintain strong relationships across the institutional investment community, including investment managers, peer institutions, consultants, and other industry professionals.

Qualifications and Credentials

Education and Experience

• CFA designation preferred.
• 10+ years of institutional investment experience.
• Demonstrated experience evaluating investment managers and investment strategies, with experience across private markets strongly valued.
• Ability to leverage critical thinking, independent judgment, and investment experience to contribute constructively to decisions across a diversified institutional portfolio.
• A clear investment philosophy and an intellectually curious, thoughtful, and analytical approach to investing.
• Strong ability to evaluate multiple sources of qualitative and quantitative information and develop well-supported investment convictions.
• Experience conducting rigorous qualitative and quantitative analysis of investment strategies, investment processes, manager organizations, and investment performance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present investment perspectives and recommendations in a clear, logical, and persuasive manner.
• Self-motivated and collaborative, with the ability to work effectively in a high-performing investment team environment.
• Highest standards of integrity, honesty, judgment, and fiduciary responsibility.
• Ability to understand, support, and articulate the organization’s distinctive Christian mission and values to investment managers, institutional partners, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
