Overview Position: Summer Camp Director Location: CHB DC - Washington, DC 20012 Employment Status: Exempt/Seasonal Salary Range: $13,000.00 - $15,000.00 Employer: Mythik Camps – Camp Director at Outdoor Mythology Summer Camp (Seasonal) Job Summary We are hiring an energetic leader to serve as summer Camp Director at our Washington, D.C. location. Camp Directors manage their program while remaining active and on the ground all day with their campers and staff, adventuring right beside them. Responsibilities Guide the Camper Experience: Organize, launch, and run your local camp program bringing stories to life for campers; promote imaginative exploration through creativity, inclusivity, and self-expression; elevate and implement camp programming with classic camp materials to meet mythological and fantastical themes; encourage physical, intellectual, and social-emotional growth for campers while adhering to safety policies and procedures. Empower Your Staff: Lead your staff to develop resiliency and thorough programming knowledge through training; provide ongoing mentorship and feedback on performance and duties; train and coach staff on appropriate parent communications, camper supervision, and active engagement. Build a Community of Heroes: Support camper and staff retention by creating an experience they want to return to; manage a team of approximately 16 staff members. Lead Your Team: Coordinate and delegate responsibilities with your staff; coordinate logistics to keep camp running smoothly. Work in Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with parents, park officials, and community partners; with headquarters, manage the camp’s online registration database, answer parent and vendor emails, and maintain the communication hub for camp. Steel Your Resolve: Work in an energetic all-outdoor environment; be prepared for physical exertion in heat or rain; directors spend most of the day on their feet and may walk 15,000–18,000 steps/day across varying terrain. Hours and Schedule 45–50 hours/week in-person at the camp location for 7 program weeks and 1 week of in-person staff training. Remote, online training and prep work pre-season. Camp Schedule: 8:00 am–4:30 pm; Monday–Friday (Camper hours: 8:45 am–4:10 pm) Varied evening administration hours (virtual). Benefits and Compensation Compensation: $1,200/week for 8 weeks of in-season work. Pre-Season Work/Training: hours vary at $20/hour. Referral Bonus: $50 for referred applicants who are hired and work at least 4 weeks. Dates Camp Training: Week of June 22 Camp Runs: June 29 – August 7 Qualifications Experience working with groups of children aged 7 to 13; summer camp experience preferred. Experience managing communications with parents and caregivers. Experience as a leader in setting and maintaining performance standards for a team. Ability to inspire others, preferably early career employees. Strong conflict resolution, delegation, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to maintain stamina and endurance in an outdoor environment over the camp season. Physical ability to lift 25–50 lbs of camp materials as part of a team.
