Job Title: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psychiatric Unit Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Psychiatric Unit - Pediatric Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing required; Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred License: State License required Certifications: BLS, MOAB obtained on site during orientation Must-Have: - De-escalation experience - Experience with physical restraints - Comfortability to run groups - Documentation skills Description: Immediate start needed. Interviews will be conducted, followed by manager approval. The candidate must be willing to float between pediatric and adult units. This is a free-standing acute inpatient facility. All patients are medically cleared prior to admission. Involuntary and voluntary admissions are common. Pediatric patients age from 5 to 18 years old. Adult patients age 18 and older. Typical pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. Adult diagnoses commonly include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, as well as eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. There are no forensic patients or inmates in this facility. Seclusion rooms are utilized when necessary. The facility occasionally sees substance use disorder or detoxing patients, who must be medically cleared. Traditional medical and psychiatric care is provided, along with specialized therapies such as group sessions and community gardens. Patient-Ratio: - RN: Day 1:5-6; Night 1:13 with resource support - Psych Techs: Pediatric: Day 6; Night 2; Adult: Day 2; Night 2 Support on the Unit: Nurse Supervisor is available during evenings and weekends. Nurse Manager is present during the day. The manager is open to addressing any issues travelers may have. House Administrator is available overnight and weekends. Psychiatrist conducts daily rounds and is on call during the night. Occupational Therapy services are available daily from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. There is security on site; however, they do not respond to patient escalations. All staff, including nurses and psych techs, respond to patient escalations. Charting system used is Cerner. Floating between units may be required. Travelers will participate in scenario-based training every other week if further practice is needed. The MOAB Educator/Trainer is available on site.
