Production Supervisor - Shipping

The Shipping Supervisor leads daily shipping operations for a security hardware manufacturing facility, ensuring accurate, on-time, and compliant outbound order fulfillment. This role directly supervises a team of approximately 20 shipping employees and serves as the key cross-functional liaison between Shipping and IT, Customer Service, Production Planning, and Assembly to ensure seamless order flow from production completion through customer delivery.

Team Leadership

Supervise, schedule, and develop approximately 20 shipping associates. Manage timekeeping, PTO, and performance reviews. Coach for productivity and safety compliance. Handle disciplinary actions in partnership with HR.

Daily Operations

Oversee pick, pack, ship, and carrier staging processes. Manage daily shipment volume to meet on-time delivery (OTD) targets. Schedule and monitor dock scheduling and carrier pickups. Coordinate labor between Freight and Seamless Operations. Train, coach, cross-train team members. Maintain shipping documents and EOD processing. Establish standard work and instructions. Maintain cross-training matrices, staffing rosters, and communication boards.


ERP / Systems

Utilize the ERP system (JD Edwards) to process shipments, manage order status, and generate shipping documentation. Troubleshoot data and transaction errors. Partner with IT on system issues, upgrades, and process improvements.

Cross-Functional Coordination

Work with Planning to align shipping capacity with production schedules and prioritize orders. Work with Assembly to resolve WIP-to-finished-goods handoff issues and short-shipment risks. Work with Customer Service on order status, expedites, and delivery exceptions. Work with Receiving to replenish materials.

Quality & Compliance

Ensure accurate order fulfillment (correct product, quantity, address, and documentation). Maintain compliance with export requirements. Support quality investigations related to shipping errors or damage claims. Support monthly audits and qualities reviews.


KPI Management

Track and report on safety, quality (shipping accuracy), delivery (on-time %), and productivity (cartons per labor hour). Drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Safety

Enforce safety protocols (forklift operation, dock safety, PPE).

Detail

Education

High school diploma or GED required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred.

Experience

3-5+ years in shipping, warehouse, or distribution operations, including 2+ years in a supervisory role.

Systems

Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JDE, or similar) and carrier software (FedEx, UPS, ShipExec) required. WMS experience a plus.

Industry

Manufacturing environment experience required. Hardware, industrial products, or regulated goods experience preferred.

Skills

Strong leadership and conflict-resolution skills. Data-driven decision making. Proficiency in Excel. Strong written and verbal communication for cross-department coordination.

Physical Demands

Ability to work in a warehouse environment. Occasional lifting up to 70 lbs. Extended periods standing or walking.

Other

Forklift certification (or ability to obtain). Familiarity with export documentation and hazmat handling a plus.
