Job Summary

This position is responsible for utilizing clinical nutrition expertise and patient education skills to support patients receiving nutrition support infusion services. The role is responsible for ongoing assessments and monitoring of parenteral nutrition (PN) patients, recommending therapeutic interventions, and fostering strong patient relationships. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Assess, monitor, and recommend therapeutic interventions for patients receiving parenteral nutrition (PN) and ensure appropriate documentation in the medical record. 

2. Evaluate and adjust PN prescriptions based on individual patient needs including macronutrients, electrolytes, micronutrients, and additional additives while following pharmacy stability and best clinical practice guidelines.  

3. Collaborate with the pharmacy, nursing, and sales teams to coordinate care plans, support referrals, and identify opportunities for program growth. 

4. Ensure compliance with applicable law, regulations, policies, and standards while delivering care that is culturally sensitive, and patient centered. 

5. Assist with insurance qualification and ensure necessary documentation is on file to secure reimbursement for PN therapy. 

6. Educate staff on nutrition-related topics, reimbursement requirements, and clinical best practices. 

7. Participate in dietitian team meetings, patient care conferences, and quality improvement initiatives. 

8. Provide individualized assessments, nutrition counseling, education, and ongoing follow up to immunoglobulin (IG) patients who request nutrition services. 

9. Organize and prioritize workload effectively to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely completion of tasks. 

10. Other related duties as assigned by manager or designee. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS  

Education: 

• Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related field required. 

• Completion of an ACEND-accredited dietetic internship program. 

Certifications and Licenses
• Current registration as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). 

• Licensure as required by state regulations. 

• Advanced certification of Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) on hire or completed within the first year of employment.  

Experience 

• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with management of parenteral nutrition support. 

• Experience with home parenteral nutrition management preferred.
